Jazz Bridge

A lot of people rave about the Jazz in the neck position but what about a Jazz in the Bridge position-----what's up with that?-----cheers!----JIMO

Re: Jazz Bridge

I have never heard one in the bridge but a kid where I work had one in the neck position and it is clear and warm----just beautifull----so I wondered what a set of them would sound like. cheers! JIMO

Re: Jazz Bridge

Since the specs aren't too different from the neck version, just think of it as a Jazz neck with a tiny bit more output and a slightly lower resonant frequency.

I like it better than the 59 or PGn. My favorite places to use a Jazz Bridge are as a Les Paul neck position or HSS strat's bridge position.

Ideally, you may want to pair it with something hotter like a Custom 5, but the voice of the Jazz Bridge in the bridge is tight, clear, and balanced.

Hey Thanks for the info!---I sure liked it in the neck position!----cheers!---JIMO

Re: Jazz Bridge

what about a Jazz in the Bridge position

I have a 1967 MIJ Emperador 335 copy with a Jazzb in the neck paired with a C5 in the bridge, wired with the '50 mod, 500k pot and .47 cap in the neck and a 250k pot and a .22 cap in the bridge. This guitar sounds like a million dollar!

Re: Jazz Bridge

So you all, really, would prefer the C5 to the Jazz in the bridge position?----cheers! JIMO

Re: Jazz Bridge

Like the Jazz neck, the Jazz bridge is a bright pickup. With 500k pots along with a Jazz neck in a mahogany super strat, I just couldn't get along with it. Ice pick city.

But in a Les Paul, paired with a Jazz neck, it's a fine pickup. Outside of that sort of situation (dark, large guitar), it really can be very bright and ice picky if you aren't careful with it.

With 500k pots in a mahogany super strat, my impression was that it was brighter than a JB with 500k pots, and had more "ice pick" to it.

Re: Jazz Bridge

im installing one in my les paul, ill let you know how it goes once i get it back from the tech

Re: Jazz Bridge

There was a huge hype about the Jazz bridge on here maybe six months ago, and I bought into it and tried one. After about a week, reality set in, and I decided it was my least favorite pickup I've ever tried. Seriously, I had it in a very neutral (not dark or bright) sounding guitar, and it was just grating.

It's funny, coz people wanted to call the Jazz set the "Do Anything" set, when one thing they completely suck at is jazz. I like the Jazz in the neck, but how on earth did such a bright pickup get to be called jazz?

Re: Jazz Bridge

What I can't figure out, and I still don't, is why some say , and I have heard it more than a few times, is that the Jazz bridge(or neck which is essentially the same pup) is such a soft sounding pickup in the neck of maple and other hardwood guitars. I would expect the opposite, but apparently 'taint the case. Im befuddled.

Re: Jazz Bridge

One thing I know about using a Jazz Bridge as a bridge pickup is that it's tight and punchy sounding. It's a pickup where your use of the tone control is mandatory. When the tone is on 10, it might be on the brighter end of what you're used to. However, backing the tone control down will allow you to go between what you're used to, and the ability to brighten it....more towards a crisper sound.

If you like darker pickups like a CC, you won't like it. If you're already used to single coil bridge pickups, it's good because you'll have that high end snap.....especially if you're a hybrid picker. With the Jazz Bridge in the bridge position, it's all a matter of taste.

+ 1

If you have a bright Frankenstrat with a Floyd, I'd go for a PGn + a Custom with an AlNiCo 8 magnet.

Also the amp's EQ should change as well. For example: in a Plexi:

Gibson SG with Classic '57: Bass 4, Mid 6, Treble 7,5-9, Presence 5-7.
Same SG with a Jazz Set: Bass 5, Mid 8, Treble 3,5-4, Presence 3-5.

The only difference is that the Jazz set was NEVER muddy in mid-to-high gain situations. The SG was stock wired with 300k pots and .47 caps, when put the Jazz set was '50 mod wired with 500k pots and .22 caps.

Re: Jazz Bridge

I personally love the jazz bridge in any position. I have yet to try one in a 25.5 scale axe though. I have only used it in Gibson scale axes.

Re: Jazz Bridge

The kid who had the Jazz pickup in the neck of his guitar had a PRS Santana and HE just hated it. I said, "You got to be kidding me, that is the clearest, most articulate humbucker I've ever heard"-------so you never know----lol----------cheers!---JIMO

Re: Jazz Bridge

I love the jazz bridge exactly because it is bright, which means its extremely articulate. I can get it to sound good playing classic rock, prog rock, blues, and balls out metal. It'd be interesting to hear it in the neck position but I really like the jazz neck as it is.
