I am tempted to try it! I don’t hear that much about it. I guess I worried it was kind of plain Jane.

It's bright and clear. It doesn't have a thumping bass and the scoop isn't so drastic (compared to the 59 for example). Depending on the guitar and the tone you are going for this can be a good or bad thing.
very good for that Angus Young type thing for example

the jazz b is brighter but less prickly than a 59 imho. I find a 59 in the bridge to be fine, but there is a thing in the upper mids and high end I find a bit sharp, with a low end that is just too boomy for me. The Jazz B is more balanced that way, despite being brighter. Makes little sense, I know, but that's what I hear and feel. I don't like the 59.

Add an alnico4, and the issues I'm having with the 59 are gone though.

I agree with the idea that a Jazz set is good for Angus Young and it illustrates what I consider personally as a simple fact: SH2's seem to be like a set of T-Tops with a few mods to improve them... Similar poly insulated wire, a few more turns in the bridge pickup coils for more beef (and a few less than in the average 7.5k T-Top for the neck SH2, in order to make it even clearer). Not to mention long magnets instead of short ones for the same reason - knowing that some thin short A5 magnets used by Gibson in T-Top's did tend to get demagnetized...

It logically leads to the idea that a pair of SH2's in a LP should do the job efficiently if it comes to play the kind of tunes recorded with Norlin era LP's. Opinions on that may vary. It's firmly mine after direct comparisons / retrofitting mods. ;-)

Anything sounding dark through a Princeton Reberb strikes me as odd...maybe rewire it (the guitar) with the current pickups...then if that is still off you'll have a better basis for describing what's missing.
If you change everything together you won't know which made the bigger difference, just the overall change.
I have a prri '65 and a LP style guitar (Hamer Monaco Elite) and I wouldn't describe it as sounding at all dark but ymmv.

100% agree do wiring first. Don't do all at once then you won't know what changed what. For bad or good. It's like tuning a car, you don't advance the timing, recurve the distributor and change carb jets all at once then you have no idea were your at tune wise

It’s so hard to wait! I at least know that I really like the Jazz neck so I’ll buy that and if it doesn’t go in the Les Paul, will be used for something at some point!

I may just order a Jazz bridge while I’m at it. Looks like the world could use more demo videos of it!

I agree- there aren't really a lot of demos of it, so if you do get one and want to film some clips, I am sure it would help a lot of people out.

i kind of agree with this, but then i have a guitar where the 59 is a great fit! it's a very warm an rounded Les Paul, not bright and no big lowend. The 59 set doesn't sound scooped at all in this guitar. Maybe the SH-14 custom 5 would even be better in this guitar, but i kind of like the low output from it.
