jazz or full shred neck?

in my schecter c-1 elite i put a distortion in the bridge and a jazz in the neck, and while i like that combo, i sometimes desired a bit more push from the jazz... you know something that was a little more comfortable to play high gain solos on and such. I will be replacing burstbuckers in my gibson les paul standard, and have decided on a distortion for the bridge, and am leaning towards a full shred in the neck.

I do very much enjoy and appreciate the organic sounding warmth provided from the jazz in my schecter, and was wondering how the warmth of the fullshred neck compares to the jazz? Because I dont think I'd like a neck pickup with a TON of bass (not much more than the jazz if possible). Lastly I was wondering how the full shred neck will compare in the "push/punch/volume/output/whatever" category compared to the jazz.

any help appreciated,

rock on.

Re: jazz or full shred neck?

In all honesty i havnt played either of those pickups but ill put a word in anyway. The full shred is a very tight pickup and in the neck position it would be real smooth with just the right amount of bass believe me you wont have to worry bout it being boomy. Im thinking that for my next guitar purchase ill be putting an Original Paralle Axis in the bridge and a full shred in the bridge. Im not a fan of that thick creamy typa clean. That last bit bout the push/punch thing i dont understand what you mean by that.

hmmm, I guess what i'm trying to say is that at times i wished the jazz had a tad bit more output/volume because even in the neck it still seemed a tad less powerful than the distortion in the bridge, but it could just be a characteristic of the jazz. my instinct tells me to go with the full shred from what I've read, but its always reassuring having more advice and perspectives from you guys to better aid a decision. :)

Re: jazz or full shred neck?

Well, consider the specs of the two pickups:

Jazz neck
DC resistance: 7.72k
Magnet: Alnico 5 bar
Resonant peak: 8.0khz

Full Shred neck
DC resistance: 7.4k
Magnet: Alnico 5 bar
Resonant peak: 8.0khz

i have looked at those, but people do not seem to trust the tone chart:sad:

although, the difference in output between the full shred and jazz on the chart are intriguing.

Re: jazz or full shred neck?

Yes, but just because they both have Alnico V magnets does not mean that they have the SAME Alnico V magnets. While the DC resistance of the Jazz is higher, I'm guessing that the Full Shred has a more powerful magnet, and thus is slightly more midrangey and with a slightly higher overall output.
