Jazz set is in!

They replaced a Gibson BB3 in the bridge and a Golden Age pickup which was too hot in the neck measuring in at 12k. I had to lower the Jazz neck quite a bit to balance with the bridge. After some adjustments, I plugged in to a Hot Rod Deluxe with the EQ set flat and I can easily say these are the cleanest, clearest humbuckers I've ever played.

Starting with the neck it has a full, clear voicing that didn't sound cold and had enough warmth for my taste. When I split the neck I was impressed how close it was to a true single though there was a bit of volume drop when I split the pickup.

The middle position was not something that was talked about when I was researching this set. In full humbucker mode it has a nice chirpy sound that I want out of two humbucker guitar. Once split the Jazz set revealed a much janglier tone.

Finally, the bridge is probably my favorite position so far. It is very rare to find a usable bridge humbucker on a clean setting. But it's not just usable, it's great on a clean setting. Split, the Jazz Bridge sounded great for a split tone but there was some noticable volume loss. With some overdrive I noticed it was still full and clear with virtually no flub on the low end. Both the bridge and neck cleaned up great with the volume knob.

Some other things I need to mention is even with the tone rolled back to zero I could still every note very clearly. However the tone knob didn't provide alot variation until it hit zero but I suspect that maybe an Issue with the capacitor and not the pickup.

Other than some minor but fixable issues I can't say anything bad about these pickups. 10/10, would do again. And finally Zebra coils in the neck and reverse Zebra coils in the bridge look amazing!

Glad you're happy with them- I usually hate clean humbucker tones, but I actually love the Jazz bridge (and Screaming Demon) cleans. I think of both those pickups as humbuckers for people who don't necessarily like humbuckers. Very similar pickups; I'd even say the Demon is a bit clearer in the bass.

Should install my set in something and remind myself how much I liked them...

I've slowly shifted my position on humbuckers. I used to never use full humbuckers. I had a couple two humbucker guitars that I used to just leave in split mode and eventually just got rid them. After forcing myself to play as many HB/P90 guitars as possible I've learned to work with them. In fact, most my complaints about humbuckers go away after plugging into right amp like an AC30.

Our very own John J Jolly has always said this is a highly under-rated / under-considered set. He is correct.

I concur. Just when I struck the first chord I knew it was going to be great.

I am just impressed that you have a Brian Moore guitar. I have one from their custom shop (when it was still producing guitars regularly), and it is a remarkable instrument. Mine has an Alnico II Pro and Custom Custom.

Very nice. My 1st Duncan was a Jazz neck in an Epi LP kind of like your guitar. If you want your tone pot to taper off more quickly you can move from 500k to either 300k or 250k. Then there's audio taper which rolls of more quickly and linear taper which rolls off more slowly.

The Jazz bridge is one of the most underrated humbuckers Duncan makes! Sounds great in the neck as well.
