Jazzmaster P/U Search....

Greetings,, After trying & ditching the Antiquity A2 pup, and finding it too weak & low output, my search continues..... Can anyone in the know break down the sound differences of SD's, or Fender's J'Master p/u sets? I picked up a Squier Jmaster that had non-stock pickups w/adjustable polepieces & they feel kinda hot & far from vintagey sounding... I'm looking for a more vintagey 'smokey' but articulate sounding,, especially on my clean sounds.....? I'm not going for any Alternative sound,, just some good 'ol twang & a SUPER Middle position..... Ice pickey bridges need not apply
Thnx ॐ

Icepicky kinda is the vintage Jazzmaster bridge sound. Get too far away from that and you're looking at a modern option.

thats my thought as well. vintage fenders bridge pups are usually damn bright.

even the duncan vintage bridge is thicker than the antiquity. i love the ant but its low output and a bit thin

yeah Jeremy, VERY thin on that Antiquity....
Any thoughts on SD's SJM2,, just under the beastly quarter pounder JM.... I'm really after some heavenly middle position sounds.....oy

Maybe I'll splurge for some Bootstraps for 49/pr...
Great strat pups, & Ryan will do whatever you want.... it's my 1st & only JM, a Squier,,, nice axe...
thnx

it must be the JMascis signature JM, those pickups are P90s in a JM shape, not vintage JMs.

if you look for vintage sound the SD ant II are beautiful , the middle position is the one you expect from a good vintage JM, think Nels Cline sound. But Lollar and Curtis Novak make over the top set, they really sing.

I'd say , stay away from Fender pure vintage JM, they are not satisfying at all (the fender Jaguar pure vintage instead are super).

for a modern sound there are a lot of competitors, same name, Lollar, Novak etc, I tried the SD hot but didn't like themm at all. At the moment in my JM I use a UK little builder's set, Mojo Pickups vintage, and they are perfect for mine, warm, chimey

I have the antiquity 2 jazzmaster pickups and I wouldn't describe it as THIN. maybe something else is lacking in your signal chain is lacking. It's hardly lacking output or is weak.
