Jazzmaster players with 90 degree cable jack in guitar

When moving around with the guitar there's some intermittent volume cut out and scratchy pot sounds. Is this a common problem? Is it the jack or the cable? It only crackles and cuts out the volume when the cable jack is basically rotating in the guitar plug in.

I’m no expert but this is what I see it to be maybe:
- Rusty input jack
- loose input jack connection
- the input jack may not be tightened fully, allowing it to move with the lead
- the part of the input jack that touches the lead may be a bit too far away and not putting enough pressure on the lead, resulting in a weak connection

That would give you some idea but it’s worth taking it off and having a look, Idk about the scratchy pots though, that could also be a rust problem too I guess...

Hope this helps [emoji847]

Thanks. Ok. I'll have my tech focus on the input jack. The guitar is only about 4 years old. I think it may have gotten messed up while stepping on the cable while walking.

The guitar doesn't have scratchy pots it just makes that crackle sound when the cable rotates in the rack.

You can bend the contacts of the input jack to hit more tightly on the plug. While you're in there, check the solder connections on the jack as well.

Could also be a broken wire or solder connection in the cable plug.

From now on pull your cable between the strap and the body just above the strap pin and THEN plug it in. That way the cable end does not move around in the guitar and if you step on the cable it does not yank on the jack or the guitar.

That's what I always do but this guitar has shallow mounts for the strap so the strap would actually pop off when I'd tuck the cable there. I nearly dropped the guitar a couple of times.

Spend less than $20 on a set of strap locks. I've been using Schallers for close to 15 years, 100% satisfied.
