Jazzmaster vs Jaguar vs Telecaster vs ????

Re: Jazzmaster vs Jaguar vs Telecaster vs ????

The Troy Van Leeuwen may have a 'weird' toggle, but that's a mod I'd do myself if I used the rhythm circuit much. The stock Jazzmaster switch is a built difficult to hit quickly, though I don't know how useful it really is. My friend with the JM keeps his rhythm circuit turned down and uses it as a killswitch. If you haven't played one, you may also want to consider different pickups as Jazzmasters have a rather unique sound. If you want a bit more power & bite, P-90s easily fit in the routes and J Mascis has done that mod on a few of his JMs.

Ah are you a J Mascis fan too? So Dinosaur uses a lot of telecaster in the studio right? And J's live setup is complex, 3 amps, various pedals, ect. So I'm quite aware that there is no 1 stop for his tones. But a bulk of his tones should be attainable with a Jazzmaster and the antiquities right? Also the toggle isn't the main turn off on the Van Leeuwen, its the price, $1200 for a MIM seems a bit high...

I don't care what you think about me. I don't think about you at all!

In which case, why all this fuss? :scratchch

Also, in the Reason For Editing caption, is the expression, "affected to" Profanity, Sarcasm or Real $#!t?

In recent weeks, Stratman has objected vehemently to (selected) other forum members interrupting threads with asides of questionable relevance. In this thread, he has clearly done exactly the thing that he objects to others doing. My comments in post #22 refer explicitly to the multi-lingual abilities claimed in Stratton's current avatar and the Reason For Editing posted at the bottom of post #18.

Re: Jazzmaster vs Jaguar vs Telecaster vs ????

The overwhelming tonal difference between the two is that the Jaguar is a student scale length guitar (even though it was intended to be Fender's top-of-the-line instrument). Many players find that scale to be uncomfortably short and lacking in string tension. While I don't mind the fret spacing, I do think they need strings about two gauges higher than normal to prevent that floppy, slightly-out-of-tune short scale sound. 11's at minimum, I'd say. I'd use 12's or 13's myself.

That said, I prefer Jags to Jazzmasters. I think they are so much better looking, and I've always been a fan of short scale instruments.
