I do think that when the coils get pretty different, they are less effective together. They aren't good at getting rid of hum, and the stronger coil really takes over the sound.
With two different coils the stronger coil dominates the series sound, and the weaker coil dominates the parallel sound. I've never tried it, but I can see situations where this would be quite useful.
Sounds like the Distortion to me.I get the idea, big tight bass, punchy mids, screaming highs....
What pickup is/would that be anyway?
Makes me think about trying a Seth Lover bridge/JB hybrid. I probably won't, but cool to ponder.
I was hoping it would have that JB midrange bark with the clarity of the 59 in one pickup .

A JB hybrid won't really be clear since the JB is quite murky and then the coil mismatch increases the mid nether even more. However ime, adding a vintage coil brings down the compression so it does kind of 'clear up' in that way. A short way of explaining it is it sounds like a mix of the 2 coils, like any other hybrid.
