JB/59n combo in a floyd equiped guitar

Goliath of Tone
i'm thinking of changing my guitar (from an alder body, mahagony neck w/rosewood fretboad epiphone SG) to either a jackson dinky or a KE3.. both have an alder body, maple neck with a rosewood fretboard and a floyd rose floating trem..

i'd like to know how much diferent the JB and '59 will sound in the jackson? i love the combo in my SG. it takes everything i throw at it and spits out the most amazing sounds imaginable

i take it, cos all of the guitars have an alder body, the sound wont be THAT much diferent.. what do the floyd and maple neck add to the final tone? i need the guitar for good palm mutes (think demons and wizards Blood on my hands opening riff - this will pretty much be the hardest stuff coming from it though).. i expect the neck to still be buttery smooth like a '59 should be.

will i be happy enough with the existing pup combo or should i go with something harder (distortion/CC comes to mind .. or would that be more of an overkill lol)

Re: JB/59n combo in a floyd equiped guitar

Personally, I think the Floyd will make the bass response less solid and the overall tone a little more spongey...that's what I notice a locking Floyd does...at least to some guitars.

The maple neck, compared to the mahogany of the SG, will usually sound brighter and tighter.

You'll get a pretty differant tone than what you're getting from your SG, IMO.

You'll probably have a longer scale with the Jackson too, right? 25 1/2" like a Fender vs the 24 3/4" scale of the Gibson...that should actually add some depth to the bass response.

I'd still stick with the 59N/JB combo if you already like it.

The a5 59N & JB have bright highs and strong bass response and should work well with a Floyd equipped guitar.

i've just recently really dug into the JB.. just needed to EQ it out properly so that it delivers the bass i want without getting the neck too muddy. took me some time but right now i think it's perfect hehe.. the heights can be a bit ear piercing at times though

well.. i'll have to sacrifice something to get to a better guitar =P i can always change the pup later if i dont like it hehe.

thx lew

IMHO, nothing works better in a Jackson then a SH-5 Custom in the bridge.

I have a JB in a Strat and it sounds killer, the 59 will as well. It's hard to find a guitar that the JB/59 doesn't sound great in.

I have a USA Jackson Fusion with a Pearly Gates TB in the bridge and it is killer. I also have a DK-2 with a Custom TB in the bridge and that thing sings and is slightly rude. Just how I like it :D.
