"JB" in an Ibanez rg???

hi!!! how would a "jb" sound in the bridge slot of a basswood ibanez rg with all-maple neck/fretboard.i play mostly hard rock/80's metal/speed-thrash metal...looking for ample,punchy bottom end(for chunky rhythm) and nice leads with soft highs(for some shreading occasionally)...and descent CLARITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! anybody???:dance:

Go with a Custom for a nice punchy bottom and nice articulation.

duude lol - bit extreme! :laugh2:

i have it in a basswood RG7621.. it's got beautiful cleans man! i don't play metal at all though.. i just like having the 7th string for pentatonic runs it's cutting but not really harsh IMO.. anything it misses or needs changing can easily be rectified!

I got a jb in a rg370 and it sounds awesome. some say its to trebley but I reckon it sounds great, great tone and great clarity for hardrock etc. As far as thrash and heavy metal maybe not as it is pretty bright therefore I am lookin to upgrade my neck pu to a 59 or invader or something..


its got great clarity and good for leads but lacks in the chunky factor

The JB will definetely work, but Jeff may be on to something with the Custom. That'll definetely get you the bottom end you're looking for.

Nah, I think the JB would do just great. The bottom end is not as tight or aggressive as the Custom's, but the highs are softer and the overall voicing is just spectacular for leads. It's really only in the meatiest of rhythms that the JB can fall short...

My recommendation? Buy the JB. Let us know what you like about it and what you don't like about it. From there, it'll be easy. You'll probably end up keeping it, though.

Get a Duncan Distortion. Problem solved! For kicks get yourself an A5 magnet and replace the ceramic magnet in the DD to make it a JB. That way you won't be wondering what it would have sounded like if you had gone for the JB. Best of both worlds that way.
