jb/jazz model installed. have hum. help

hi. I just bought the jb/jazz set. I installed them properly, just replacing stock pickups. I installed thinking of standard humbucker setup. all the wires are solderes right and isolated, but when I use the pickups individual, they have a little hum, and when I put the 3way swtich in the middle (using 2 pickups at the same time), the hum dissapears. its like they were acting like a single coil?? but no the sound, the hum cancelling.

can anyone help me? is it that way? thanks.

Red and white wires soldered and then taped? Black to the switch or if it's a Les Paul type to input of the volume pot? Green and bare wire to ground?

Should work perfectly unless the pickup is defective.

Had a defective JB returned to me last week that had the wires inside connected wrong and it would only function as a single coil. First one I've seen like that...but now I know it happens.

I'm with Lew you might want to make sure the red and white are soldered together and taped, that way they won't ground out.

hi. thank you for the fast response. yes Ive got all the cables, double checked, as indicated. the red/white, I soldered them together then wrapped a small piece of the same blue foil that comes around the cable of the pickup, and then I wrapped that with black tape. I think the electronic part is perfect.

please download this 2 small files so you know my problem better:

http://www.geocities.com/luiguibanez/sd_jbjazz_test.wav

http://www.geocities.com/luiguibanez/sd_jbjazz_test2.wav

the 3 way switch is as this:
neck pickup: jazz
middle pickup: jazz + jb
bridge pickup: jb

the first file: sd_jbjazz_test
neck clean, middle clean, bridge clean, neck rythm, middle rythm, bridge rythm, then i switch pickups without hitting notes so you hear the hum, and finally, solo channel, neck middle brige. Im around a TV and the monitor turned on. on the second file i switch them off

the second file : sd_jbjazz_test2
neck rythm , then turn off monitor, switch to middle, switch to bridge, switch back to middle, then switch back to bridge, then turn on monitor again.

from what i hear the pups sound like humbuckers right? but they dont perform the bucking of the hum too well...

i hope ive provided enough and see if this is a problem, or they are that way.

What guitar are you playin? I have an Ibanez and had a JB aswell. I had the same problems like you. That´s odd.

Re: jb/jazz model installed. have hum. help

i have an esp ltd ex.100 with stock 500k pots (measured around 525), stock jack, stock switch etc... theres a cable going from ground to bridge (I suppose it goes to bridge). if its the guitar, then ive got nothing to do but learn to live it with like when I had a squier... hopefully in a month or so I will buy an esp ltd v-350 and she will be more worthy to "wear" my duncans.

duncan says that his pickups should be used for guitars priced over $800. mine would cost around 200? . the v-350 i have in mind costed $700... so it will make more of a combo.

Ive never heard that, nor can I imigine thats true.
Make sure that wire to the bridge is definetly connected, you might want to take a peice of wire and run a ground to each pot also...
