JB Jr. doesn't fit into '65 reissue?

I brought some of my guitars to get some work done and the guy working on it told me the JB Jr. didn't fit in my Fender Mustang '65 Reissue. Why doesn't it fit and what size is the JB Jr. for then if not for single coil slots? :eyecrazy:

Re: JB Jr. doesn't fit into '65 reissue?

welcome to the forum!

the jb jr is designed as a strat replacement pup so should fit in a mustang ok. did he say where it didnt fit? the pickguard, the rout etc...

Re: JB Jr. doesn't fit into '65 reissue?

I'm picking them up today. I'll see what he says when I pick it up. It sounds like it was the routing on the actual guitar. I'm quite shocked, to hear this. Does this not sound correct?

The JB jr should fit because the dimensions of the mustangs stock pickups are the same as the JB jr. The only thing I can imagine is he didn't want to turn the pickup 180 degrees to fit into the route because the logo would be backwards. If that is his reason he's not very bright!

Re: JB Jr. doesn't fit into '65 reissue?

This seems really fishy. I may try to bring it to a different shop to try to see if they can figure it out. Maybe it is the pick up though, would a Lace Sensor fit any differently?

Re: JB Jr. doesn't fit into '65 reissue?

just try it yourself. with the guard off, drop it in the slot. if it fits then try and put the guard on and see if the pup comes thru the hole correctly.

Re: JB Jr. doesn't fit into '65 reissue?

I would hate to try it again after I paid some one to put it in. :(

I guess I might have too.

Re: JB Jr. doesn't fit into '65 reissue?

im not saying wire it up, just physically see where it isnt fitting

Re: JB Jr. doesn't fit into '65 reissue?

Is the JB Jr exactly the same size as a normal single coil? I know I had to enlarge the hole on a pickguard when I wanted to put a Hot Rails in to replace the stock single coil.
Is that maybe the problem?

Re: JB Jr. doesn't fit into '65 reissue?

I heard rumors that the new plastic JB Jr. doesn't fit like the old one with the wrapping around it. Could it be Seymour Duncan's production error?

Re: JB Jr. doesn't fit into '65 reissue?

Is it old (bobbins and tape) style or new (plastic cover) style?

I used to have an "old" version of the Little 59 which didn't fit through the pickguard hole without cutting the hole slightly wider on the ends.

I belive the "new" versions (plastic cover) are not supposed to have this problem.

Re: JB Jr. doesn't fit into '65 reissue?

It fit in the pick guard but the JB Jr. made the pick guard lopsided... so that's why it didn't work out. I'm hoping the Lace Sensors work out. :friday:

Re: JB Jr. doesn't fit into '65 reissue?

I don't follow. Was it the wiring coming out the Jb Jr that made the pickguard raise up?

Re: JB Jr. doesn't fit into '65 reissue?

made the pickguard lopsided? not sure what you mean by that

I'm thinking the wires in a JB Jr come out the middle and are pretty stiff, so if there's not a deep rout in his bridge, the wires were pushing against the body/pickguard and making the pickguard bulge.

That's the only thing I can think of. : private:

Re: JB Jr. doesn't fit into '65 reissue?

Who knows, I might have guessed totally wrong, it seems pretty weird, it's just the only thing I can think of for this "lopsided" thing.
The best thing would be for you to wire these things in yourself - it's not hard at all, unless you want to get into more exotic wiring schemes*, and at least then you can see where the problems arise and fix them yourself without paying some oaf to do a crappy job.

*And even then, you have the guys on here to help you out. See my "Concentric pots" thread for a good example of an oaf needing help.
