Hello All,
I havent been on here in a while, but I have been really busy. Anyways, I have a Jackson DK2 with JB stock PUps in the bridge, and I want to try a magnet swap, heard alot about the A8, anyone have any input on this, I play mostly 80's type metal, from Dokken, Ratt, stuff like that, I think I want a little more bottom end with more clarity all through the range of tone, any comments will be welcomed, Thanks All. Hope everyone has been doing well.

Re: JB magnet swap in a DK2?

well if you can get one, give it a try.

You'll definitely get a more powerful sound, tighter bottom end and clarity. Overall a thicker and louder sound. I always say it's like hitting the loudness button on a stereo. You may need to back the pickup off the string a little bit more than you normally would.

I have one now in a guitar that I put heavier strings on and tuned down to C. It's crushing hahaha ;)

I think the A8's are gone - if not better move quick

Re: JB magnet swap in a DK2?

I put a Crazy 8 into a DK2M a few years back. I liked the sound much better than I did with the stock JB.

Re: JB magnet swap in a DK2?

Well, just got an email from John at Wymore, he has no A8 mags left, that sucks, all he has left are A2 A3 and A5.
Anyone have any other location where I may grab some, does anyone on here sell them? Thanks again...

Dude, 80's metal = A2 JB

Jake E Lee played one.

The Lynch V2 and the DeMartini RTM also happen to be overwound A2's.

Just sayin...

fowl2338 is right about JB2 being the right pickup for those tones, but given you want more bottom, I'd probably try the A8.

Though I can see going for the JB with A8 to try to cover the early Dokken tones without fighting to control the bite of a ceramic Distortion.

I don't think the A8 goes quite as sweet & smooth as the A2, it can wind up sounding more pissed off (though sometimes less nasal/shrill) than the standard A5.

For trying to get something in between the original JB and a Distortion, A8 in that wind is a great choice.

You didn't say what amp you're playing through, but if your amp is bright and/or you use a tube screamer or comparable, you will not have any problems with a JB2. If you're trying to play nu-metal or Slayer covers you won't like it, the low end is too flabby to play tight chugga rhythms. JB8 has a rawwr-rawwr sound, very raw. The JB2 just growls, and lead sounds are amazing. I like them both, but I think you should at least try an A2, I think you might really like it.
