JB Mod...

One complaint about the JB is that it's too flabby on the bass strings... couldn't you solve this by sticking half a ceramic magnet and half an a5 magnet together? The ceramic mag would tighten up the sound of the bass strings, no? And you'd still have the great soloing tone for the other strings.

Re: JB Mod...

JB Hybrid?

no idea.. try it
i like the bass response of my JB, it's the high strings that are sometimes too icepicky .. maybe if i got that 5/2 magnet out of the 5/2 single coil..

anybody that would do that experiment?

correct me if im wrong but i read that the alnico5/2 combination didn't work out well...

Re: JB Mod...

maybe allen head screws will help. Ive read something about it. I find the JB real tight but you're right it could be a bit better moreover if it's lower then G though I'm not sure if it's the PU or the cab which gets "flabby".

i got NO idea.. never seen anything like it and never heard anyone use the 5/2 single coil so i'd get an idea how it would be

I'm pretty sure the 5/2 pickup uses a rod magnet. Humbuckers require bar magnets.

Ryan

hmm, could you make a hybrid bar magnet? just for experimenting purposes?

the JB sure doesnt have a flabby bass. if you rais it up to the strings, the bass is tighter than ... well, we all know ;)
