JB Pickup..

Hey people, i have two 59's in my Epiphone G400....They're ****ing wonderful, to say the least...But i was wondering if a JB in the bridge would be a better match? I find the 59 is quite bassy, even though i love the raw power you get from it..i want something with a bit more treble, to add that extra punch. Will the JB do this for me??? Thank you:fingersx:

The JB will be a louder pickup and push your amp harder than your 59B. The JB has an upper midrange peak that some perceive as being "bright"...I hear it as being more penetrating than the 59B but not brighter. IMO, your 59B is the brighter pickup if bright means more upper harmonics and a genuinely extended high end with sparkle.

Alnico 5 pickups like the 59's and JB are quite bassy and trebley compared to most alnico 2 pickups...and alnico 2 pickups like the Custom Custom have more mids and less bass but also less treble.

An alnico 2 pickup like the Pearly Gates will have a little less bass than the 59 but does have a nice edge to the treble and a certain open quality to the mids.

You might also like the Duncan Custom...it a ceramic magnet pickup with a nice grainy sizzle to the treble, strong mids and fairly strong bass.

You might need to use the Duncan 21 Day exchange and try a few bridge HB's until you find the one that's right for you and your guitar and your amp.

I think the JB is a good choice, but be ready for nice slashing mids, a lot of output, and attitude compared to your 59. I am not a huge 59 in the bridge fan, but I think you will see a good difference if you want a lead player's / hard rocker's tone.

I like the CC, but it doesn't bite like a JB, and it could mud out in comparison to a 59 or a JB. The PG is a nice choice, it's in the vein of the 59, only with more bite and bark.
