JB split, should I connect the North or South

I have an HSS strat copy for which I recently got a JB trembucker for the bridge. I will be using Fender single-coils so I will switch the ground and hot wires as the wiring diagram says. I plan to put in mini-switches to split the humbucker and activate the neck pickup. Does is matter which coil is active when split? Would it make a difference for hum-cancelling in the notch position or would a humbucker always cancel hum even if both coils aren't active?

Thanks everyone.

Not sure what you mean but I always tap the non adjustable coil nearest the mid single.
I love the split tone of the JB.

Re: JB split, should I connect the North or South

When You will spilt JB and do the posiition that only one coil of JB will work (You will have a hum) - so with 5way switch and spilted it would look like:

1- only JB splited (HUM)
2- JB with middle (no hum if you will choose good coil of JB to make RWRP)
3- middle (HUM)
4- middle neck singles (no hum, they are done in RWRP)
5- neck only (HUM)

If You will have problem with wiring diagram just write here
I do subscription of this thread (just directly to help You)

Thanks Peter. It sounds like I will have to choose which position will have hum (either neck and bridge or bridge and middle).

Re: JB split, should I connect the North or South

Well, I got the pickups in and wired and finally got a new high e since it broke when restringing the guitar. I like the sound so far. I'm still waiting on the middle Fender Tex-Mex as it's on back-order. I reversed the wiring of the JB when I installed it, but I wonder if I need to put it the way the wiring schematic says (green to ground, black to the 5way). It sounds right in the notch position between the middle and bridge but sounds much quieter when I do the bridge, neck setting. Maybe when they made the trembucker they put the wires the way they were supposed to be for a Fender pickup. Anyway, when I get the middle pickup, I think i will rewire the JB. So far, so good.

Try both options and see what is groovy for you.

I've used quite a few JB's over the years and I always coil tapped them according to the SD instructions. By itself, wasn't my thing but combined with a neck pickup it shined.

I've got it tapped to the hot side now. I think I'll change that to ground and also put the wires where they go per the instructions. It sounds out of phase when I combine it with the neck pickup which is a Fender Tex-Mex. I like the sound of the JB by itself. It doesn't have the ear-shattering highs of the stock pu.

+1 The JB sounds awesome split with neck pickup. I got my JB split with the jazz split and it is a very cool tone, almost tele-ish.
