JB substitute for more dynamic & less harsh soloing?

Alright, last guitar to mod before the album.

It's a very nice Charvel San Dimas Style 2 (telly body) that has a 59(n) and JB(b). This is my go to guitar when it comes to faster solos and so because it plays like a dream. Everyone digs it. I just use for solos, because the floyd makes it a pain to use it for recording drop and open tuning, etc.

Anyways, I'm looking to replace the JB for the recording of this album because I find it a bit harsh and no so dynamic for solos. I would like something a bit more pafish and spongier but that is able to maintaing more or less the same power and output and can keep up with the 59.

I love Pearly Gates+ but don't know if it's the best option since the Charvel is more of a Trembucker spacing axe and the output is like 8.6K, the JB is like 16.4K.

I also thought of the Custom 5 but don't really know. What do you recommend or think?

Cheers and thanks a ton!

Try the Perpetual Burn, it's about 12 K and is a little more touch sensitive than the JB.

Before you ditch the JB you could try a few magnet swaps to round off the treble and thicken the midrange. Two I would try are the unoriented, roughcast Alnico 5 and a Alnico II.

Check out the Custom Shop RTM. I never liked the JB for just the reasons you stated but I LOVE the RTM in my Kramer. Way better than JB or Pearly Gates.

Oops, I posted this on the wrong forum section. I just reposted it on the Pickup Lounge. Sorry, don't hate, I'm old, not good on computers ;(

A roughcast, unoriented Alnico 5 or Alnico 2 will move you closer to the JB antiquity in terms of midrange complexity and treble response.

Gee, it's a shame the JB is such a one-trick pony.

I love my JB in my rg2

It is real particular on where it wants to be under the strings

Get it right and it's 80s hair metal
Little bit up icepicky highs
Little bit down total a$$

Does this thread really need to be posted in two areas?
