JB too dark??? Help!!!

HI Ya'll. I just got a new RG42 fixed bridge mahogany body and maple thru neck. With the stock infinity pickups this guitar was very dark. I went back and forth as whether to put a JB which I thought might prove to be too bright or a distortion. I went JB and the guitar is still dark? not what I have come to expect from the JB. I still have the stock 500k pots, would going to a 250 brighten things up or make matters worse? How about the cap?

First thing I would do is meter the pots. Markings mean nothing and you may have an issue there. Disconnect the pots from the circuit and check that out. If you don't have an ohm meter you can try disconnecting the output jacks tip terminal from the guitar and connecting the hot lead of the JB directly to the output jack. If your tone brightens its probably a low spec pot. Using 250k pots will not help as they tend to make humbucker loaded guitars sound darker than 500k pots.

Do you have a guitar that sounds right on your amp? If it isn't a rig issue maybe you can describe the tone you are after and we can make a better pickup suggestion.

Thats what I thought. Maybe I should up grade the 5 way switch and pots. Maybe a cold solder joint carry over.

Hey Robert. I totally dig the sound I get out of another ibanez on the same amp. This new RG just sounds dark open chording and palm muted E strings don't have the tightness I get from my other similiar equipped axe.
