JB trembucker spacing

Have a JB trembucker in the bridge of my custom guitar with a fixed fender style bridge. Lines up perfectly, but the difference in spacing is pretty wide, and getting significant drop in volume when doing a run-of-the-mill bend from high d to e on the B string. Im not actually in love with this pickup and will probably change it out but thought it would be interesting to know if there anyone has tried to improve that quality on these type of pickups. Any thoughts?

Welcome to the forum!

Your post is a bit confusing because you type that the pickup "lines up perfectly", but there is a difference in spacing?

What is it about the JB you don't like and then we can help further.

Re: JB trembucker spacing

Ayrton - I'm going to take a stab that the issue here is the TB lines up with the strings fine, until a string is bent. Since the TBs have wider spaced poles, there would be more space between any two given poles of a TB than there would on an SH.

Is it possbile this is resulting in an attenuation during said bend? Personally, I've never noticed this and in fact, TBs line up better on my Epis so I use them there instead of SHs when I can.

mike2nyc - If this is really an issue, one of SD's "rails" pickups might be what you're looking for. Instead of one pole under a string, you have a blade pole, perpendicular to the string. I don't own one myself but from the looks of them, you'd break a string while bending before you'd run out of pole. ;) You could be talking a Custom Shop order if you want a JB with blades though.

Re: JB trembucker spacing

Hey all, thanks for the welcome.

The JB pole pieces do line up perfectly, and since it is a wider spacing when I bend the B it drops out enough for me to notice when I was recording at home on headphones. :kabong: I mean this is a really tweaky thing for me to bring up but I was just wondering if anyone else had ever really noticed that aspect of the trembuckers. I do bend a lot in general.

I have been listening to all of the different audio clips of the p/u's and surfing the forum for a while now and have seen so many cool approaches to getting different sounds. I've played an Ibanez Jem 7PBK since 92 so I am extremely use to having an even balance between the neck and bridge humbuckers. The quality of the SD's are way better to me but I need to get a better balance. The JB is cool, but I think that the distortion style pu thing isn't for me (my first experience w/ one). Also the Jazz sounds great in this guitar but the more distortion I add the more articulation I lose.
Here's a pic of the new guitar: swamp ash body, 1/4 sawn maple w/ebony, series and parallel on both. It's, loud and the tone is kind of like a maple finger board with a smoother attack and more highs. Any suggestions?
