JB trembucker won't fit in strat?

I just have a standard MIA strat with an 11-hole pickguard and the local music shop looked at my JB trembucker and told me it wouldn't fit. he could drill a hole and leave the other two open, but that sucks. I thought trembuckers were supposed to fit strats? was i mistaken? which humbuckers WILL fit my HSS strat?

Re: JB trembucker won't fit in strat?

You might have one of those Fender pickguards that has two screw holes on the bass side, and one on the treble side. In that case your tech is talking about pretty much ANY replacement HB that isn't a Fender.

Re: JB trembucker won't fit in strat?

so I either have to screw in a new hole, buy a fender pickup, or stick with the stock HB? or is there an HSS pickguard with the right sized holes?

Re: JB trembucker won't fit in strat?

You might want to go to a different shop if they didn't suggest a replacement pickguard as a simple solution.

It's not the right "sized" holes, it's the "right" holes, period. Fender is trying to slow people down from replacing pickups with third party replacements. All third party humbuckers (Dimarzio, Duncan, EMG, etc.) are standard two screw pickups. A couple of guitar manufacturers from time to time (Fender and BC Rich, to name more than one) made their own OEM pickups that were three screw (two screws on one side, and one screw on the other), and I have yet to run into any of those pickups not being absolutely horrible.

Replace the pickguard and tell Fender where to stick it. :)

Re: JB trembucker won't fit in strat?

Correct me if I'm wrong guys, but don't trembuckers have three-hole mounting tabs? Would the fender holes fit with those or no?

Re: JB trembucker won't fit in strat?

thanks for that link. which bridge type do i want though?
humbucker, fat, trembucker, fat trembucker?

Re: JB trembucker won't fit in strat?

Good job explaining how it didn't fit, BTW.

So your problem is the three-hole versus two-hole thing in the pickguard?

Re: JB trembucker won't fit in strat?

basically yeah. but i just kept the diamondback in there and i'm selling the JB. diamondback is fine anyway. I was a little obsessed with change

Re: JB trembucker won't fit in strat?

all that has to be done is to put a hole right in between the two exsiting holes in the Pickguard

Nah, a Duncan Trembucker will drop right in because they have three screw holes. Easy, no mods necessary! :)

Re: JB trembucker won't fit in strat?

Actually, I just got a Custom trembucker and I thought it would fit in my pickguard with the 2 holes, but those 2 holes on the pickguard are farther apart than the holes on the trembucker. So I'm afraid you'll have to drill a hole

pretty sure this dude figured out his issue months ago.

This thread has been dead for a year and a half. So you decided to resurrect it just so you could put down the last poster who was just trying to contribute.

That was really helpful.
