jb vs. distortion vs. custom

i got a jb in my les paul. i like it. i mean, how doesn't? but i needed something more. i opted for the dd and i put it in my iceman. it sound pretty damn good. but it's a bit too much. now my first instinct would be to find something between the two, and everything seems to point in the direction of the duncan custom. i needed a more powerful jb, but something with better cleans then the dd offers. i tend to favor the top stings on the guitar when i strum chords. i really like to hear them cut through. think of my tone as the blade of an axe: thick bottom, sharp top. will the custom do the job? and how would it sound with a jazz in the neck?

btw, this pickup combo would end up replacing the dd/59 combo in my iceman.

I think you should try a JB or a DD (the same coils) with a smaller ceramic magnet or a A8. Look into the search for JB 8 and smaller ceramic - you find some guys who did that twist.

The custom might be close to what you're looking for...Its a great pickup, rude as all hell, though its not much higher output than the JB...actually its a bit lower. But thats not really somthing that ya notice all too much. If you don't wanna f*** around with magnet swaps, I'd say go for that.
