JB vs. Full Shred

Dunno if this has been already.
I'm looking for something good for bridge.
I want to get some serious harmonics ot of it.No need for overly good clean tone, cuz i use single coils for that.It needs to balance out good with some single coil in the neck. And i need some crunch to it.Opinions please, this is not a poll.
:offtopic: Is middle pickup needed in the guitar?I would like to pull it out but i'm not sure is it important to achieve some sort of balance?Configuration is H-S-S.

Re: JB vs. Full Shred

I'd go with the JB since you seem to have just described it, but remember harmonics come from the fingers and not from pick ups. The clean tone is very usable and with some amp tweaking seriously beautiful IMO!

If you don't like the tone of the middle pick up I don't see why there should be any problem pulling it out. If you were to use them together the gap between pick ups would be slightly greater, but maybe you'd like the tone better. Try it out and wire the middle position of your switch to HS

Re: JB vs. Full Shred

I have separate switches for each pickup.
So,one switch will do nothing. Can i wire that switch to do a splitting job?

Re: JB vs. Full Shred

I found the Jb to have a very Strat-like tone when split. It if that is what you putting this in, you may want to split this pickup. I really liked the parrallel wiring tone.

Re: JB vs. Full Shred

The problem is that the JB and Full Shred are fairly similar to my ears, and both pickup harmonics extremely well. To my ears the Full Shred 'Crunches' better than the JB, although I prefer to use a much more academic term of "More Chunkiness"

So before I can say which one is better, I think we may need a better description of the tone you're looking for

Re: JB vs. Full Shred

I have a JB, and it has noticably more low end compared to the FS, which i like. Its all about what sound you are trying to get though. The full shred has a really tight low end and can get a good crunch with noticable mids and presence.

Re: JB vs. Full Shred

I like them both. I think they're pretty different though.

If you want a well defined bottom end (for example, Malmsteen esque runs on the low frets of the bass strings that will be clear even with lots of distortion), I do think the full shred edges out the JB. I think that the full shred sounds more 'hi-fi' than the JB does.

But,for the more popular types of 80's and 90's sounds, I like the JB better. I think it has a very distinctive sound and when you hear it, you'll know what I mean.

Just buy one and use the 21 day exchange policy if you don't like it. That's the only way you can really tell for yourself-by hearing it on your guitar thru your rig as played by your fingers. ;)

Re: JB vs. Full Shred

Thanks.
Yeah,what that dude said before....
It's going in the bridge. So which one is better for sweeps and tappings?
And i have no problems with achieving harmonics on anything.
So that wouldn't be a problem.
