JB with Invader poles

Been a while since I've posted here, how's everyone?

I tried using the Search feature and found no results, so I'll ask this:

Has anyone tried using a regular JB and used the Invader poles in it's place? Good or bad idea? And where canI order those poles?

Thanks in advance!

Re: JB with Invader poles

I replaced the poles on a DiMarzio Evolution with Invader poles. It's been a long time, but I remember it being basically the same, but a little muddier.

Re: JB with Invader poles

What do you want the JB to do that it isn't currently doing?

Oh, I love the JB. Just that on my import Washburn N1, both a regular and a Trembucker JB doesn't line up with the strings, and it seems like having those poles corrects that issue just like an Invader would.

Just wondering if it's possible or is it something best left to a professional to install those poles?

sounds like the core issue might not be the pickup.

is there something going on with the bridge (or maybe neck alignment) or the pickup mounting ring or pickup cavities that could be why the poles aren't lining up?

Imports usually have a different spacing, DiMarzios usually line up far better with their F-Spacong more than SD's.

But for over 20 years of owning this Washburn N1, I find that the JB is it, but it's almost there, and I believe, other than my OCD, that having those poles will finally correct the full sound I needed out of the JB for THIS guitar.

I just hope there nothing too drastic that those screws will add or take away from the JB's character.

import guitars? import pickups? import bridges?

I have an early run Washburn N2 with a Takeuchi trem and kept an 80s SH-4 JBJ in there for many years. no problems.

the big bolt screws will most definitely change the character of any pickup. while I also prefer the poles to line up, it's also feeding into the OCD nature of guitar players and although there is a slight difference, a slight difference is all it is. BUT... if neither spacing is working lining up perfectly, could you post some photos of the issue with the misalignment of the poles that you are experiencing?

Re: JB with Invader poles

I will say that a JB is plenty strong enough to sense all the strings even if the poles are off. Adding big hex poles will certainly change the sound of the pickup, and the center of those won't be lined up either.

Re: JB with Invader poles

Something I didn't see mentioned yet is that the JB and Invader pole pieces have different thread sizes, so I wouldn't recommend trying to thread Invader poles into a JB bobbin.
