JB4 / 59 and SH-6 / Jazz Pickup combinations?

This is kind of a dual theme thread about two guitars and two pickup combinations.

GUITAR A: I have a Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus (removed the neck finish - now a bright guitar) in which i have the SD JB4 / Jazz combo but i find the jazz pickup too bright and could use a bit more output.
Is the SD 59 the pickup i'm looking for? A little more output, more sustain, a little less highs?

Looking for good Lead Work (heavy blues gary moore style) and using it as Parallel or Split for good cleans, matching it's JB4 split or paralell mainly.

GUITAR B: I also have a Schecter Omen 6 Extreme tuned in B Standard with a SH-6 that i absolutely am in love with but the neck pickup is horrible on this guitar. I never got a decent clean on this guitar.

Is the SH-2 Jazz a good match for the Duncan Distortion? Looking for cleans mainly here and a good position in the middle of them.

In my experience, the duncan distortion is brighter than the JB4, so maybe the Jazz that was too bright for the JB4 will be just right for the SH-6, right?

Looking for good Cleans when used in Paralell, and decent, bright and shimery lead work.

I've played a couple of Schecters (not mine) with the Distortion/Jazz combo, the positions seemed tonally well balanced, but there was a bit more of a volume difference between the pickups than there is with the JB/Jazz combo - heights had room for adjustment though, from memory. JB/59 should work nicely too with a bit of tinkering, 59 will probably seem a bit boomy after having a Jazz in the neck. Pearly Gates sometimes gets suggested as a compromise.

I've heard people sugesting me the Alnico II Pro, they say it's slightly less output than the 59 and less boomy.

I wont try a pearly gates, it's way more expensive than these two.

If that helps, i find the jazz sounds good on my guitar with my tone knob set to 5. I'm using 500k Alpha tone pots and a 22nf (i think?) cap.

I kind of look for a tone like that and a hair more output. Which one fits me best here, the 59 or the Alnico II? Mind that my guitar is pretty bright sounding.

I'd agree with that description of the APH vs 59. Unless your LP is abnormally bright, the APH would be my choice for that application.

You have a lot of options first of all. A good thing to have.

What's your rig and what music are you playing with the Schecter?

Since you have the Jazz, throw it in the Schecter. You will likely need to tinker with heights to match volumes.

Some people put the bridge Jazz in the neck to match with a Distortion. Another great pickup to go in the neck with the Distortion is a Screamin Demon.

I have read on this forum that the Jazz is an Alnico 2 Pro but with an A5 magnet.

And yes I think the A2P is less bright than a Jazz.

Fhe 59n is bright. Also has a strong bass.

Well, my Les Paul with a JB4 on the bridge, with a 500k volume and tone pots, 11-52 strings (11 pack with a 52 single) top wrapped, sounds brighter than my Schecter with 10-50 with a SH-6 without a tone pot LOL.

Acoustically it's very bright, just like a telecaster. This is because i removed the finish from the neck, and i find this dramatically changes the brightness of a guitar. Actually, try it on acoustic guitars that you may find to sound dull...it'll definately help.

I'll swap the jazz to the Schecter as soon as my switches for parallel wiring arrive, as i hate to solder, better do all i have to do it all at once :)

Cordovaaaaa...
The sh2 is a great match with the distortion. Doubtful on the parallels, but the cleans and the splits are great. Do it.

The splits of the Jazz or the 59? I know for sure the parallel at least on my les paul is thousands of times better than the split, the jazz split is just ear piercing, but in parallel the highs get so round and shimery :)

Well I think the 59 comes single conductor normally. But I don't think it costs extra to get a 4 conductor version. I actually don't know tho haha

The 59n I have is a single conductor.

It does cost about 9€ extra that's it :) i can find the 59N4C by 88€ while the single conductor one is 79.

It's within reasonable prices, the pearly gates neck is 106€ lol, its almost a bareknuckle pickup :p

Re: JB4 / 59 and SH-6 / Jazz Pickup combinations?

Sounds like it should work. To my ears, the '59 and Jazz output is the same, but the '59 has more mids, so maybe it might sound like it has more output to some people. I haven't used the Custom or Distortion bridge, but I've used both neck pickups, and what you're saying sounds like it may make sense.
