JBvCC, APHvJazz

Alright, I need some advice. I've always gone for more classic rock tones in my guitars, but now I'm trying to get something a little edgier. I'm reworking my tele to handle some harder things. As far as pickups go for it (based soley on the fact that these are the ones I have that aren't currently in other guitars) I have a JB and CC for the bridge, APH and Jazz for the neck. What do you guys think would be the best combination for the job? Again, looking for hard rock stuff. Doesn't necessarily have to be good for shredding or anything like that, just clarity in heavy distortion. Think Rage Against the Machine, MUSE, etc.

Er, two basic questions to begin with.
1) What sort of guitar are you planning to modify?
2) What amplification and/or pedals do you use?

Mexi Tele, alder body, maple neck. I'm thinking the CC/APH would be the better combo, given the bright woods. I'm playing through a 50 watt plexi style amp, EL-34's. Basically a copy of a Marshall 1987x. As far as distortion pedals go, my TS808 gets the most use. Also have a Guv'nor, Blues Driver, and DS-1 that occasionally make appearances.

The JB was originally designed for a telecaster (Jeff Beck's "telegib"). It sounds great with a maple fretboard, maple neck & alder body. Soft maple body works great as well.

The JB actually sounds more balanced in brighter woods in most cases (sometimes is a bit hard in ash, but not always).

The Custom Custom is generally better in brighter woods as well (generally liked in bright ash). It's a warm tone, but bass is a bit squishy. Which can be great for some kinds of rock, but speed metal fans generally don't get along with typical A2 humbuckers.

Either pickup could work, depends on what tone you are going for.

The JB should cut more in a mix with a band, whereas the CC will give you a more "organic" feel.

Re: JBvCC, APHvJazz

Whatever you put in the bridge, put the APH in the neck. My favorite neck bucker of all time. I would normally default CC for the bridge choice, but I've got a lot more love for the JB lately.

I'm out on a limb and will go JB/APH.
