JCM 2000 no sound

Bought a pre-owned JCM2000 a few months back, all was great until suddenly in the middle of playing the sound went and won't come back. All the tubes light up when the amp is turned on, but no sound from the amp comes out, not even a little bit of hum when switched on. Not sure if this is due to a dead tube or something more serious, some insight to this would be greatly appreciated. Something Strange to add to this which I noticed, even though no sound comes out when switched on, one of the transformers buzzes when the amp is on but stops when a guitar is plugged into the amp, not sure if this is a sign of a bad problem as I have only just noticed this happening since the sound going from the amp. Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: JCM 2000 no sound

First, plug your guitar directly into the FX return to see if the power amp is functioning. If not, it's a power section/power tube issue. Also, test the fuse.

If the power section works, but there's still no sound plugged into the front, put a little patch cable in the FX in to the out. This will see if the FX loop has a short.
While you're at it, spray out the FX loop jacks with Deoxit, or use alcohol on a Q Tip and scrub the inside of each input jack on the whole amp.

Next, take a spare pre tube and install it in the first position, test, 2nd pos, test, 3rd position, test. If any of the preamp tubes are bad, the amp will spring to life when the bad one is removed.

If you still have no luck with all the tubes replaced with new ones, pull the chassis out and see if any of the wiring harnesses have come unplugged. After that, it's tech time.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it turns out, so other DSL owners can pinpoint problems easier.

Is the footswitch plugged in? If so, try unplugging it.
