JCM SLASH model and the MARSHALL SILVER JUBILEE

Ok, so in my usual wheeling and dealing someone wants to take my Knucklehead off my hands and get me into a mint JCM SLASH model.

I like owning collectible amps because they go up in volume AND sound killer - YES, unfortunately IN THAT ORDER.

I am a live player, but for recording and cool factor - collectible amps tend to rock. I have also made money on them. I got my Framus direct from the Factory because someone wanted my Mark 2b wood/wicker. On the other hand, collectible amps are scary to take out and often lack features (ie my 73 handwired plexi - man I wish it had a clean channel. Taking it out means taking a HOT PLATE and a VARIAC to get that real old school tone - and then I still need another amp for cleans.)

SO is the Jubilee / Slash model all that? GEARJONESER says it's too 80s metal. I almost bought a Jubilee once, but I wasn't wow-ed by it. Just a REALLY cool JCM800 to me, I actually am far more wow-ed by Bogners.

Any thoughts?

C'mon, every other post is a "how do I sound like SLASH" post...lol
I actually have APH1s in my LP.

I think you'd dig it. I like the overall sound of them even more than Riveras, so I'd do the trade. Judging by your vibe as an artist with a retro look, I think a Marshall looks better behind you than a Framus or Rivera, not to mention they nail the sounds you need. I see you as a Kravitz, Mott the Hoople, Rod Stewart type performer, so you can't go wrong using a versatile and great sounding amp like a JCM Slash.

When I said 80's metal, I meant that the sound they do best is a very crunchy highgain 800 sound. When it's clean channel is dialed right, the gain channel is really cookin. On Jubilees/Slash's, the clean and gain channels share a common gain control, so when you get a midgain tone on the gain channel, your clean channel isn't too punchy anymore. When the clean channel is sounding it's best, the gain channel is at Zakk Wylde type gain levels.

It should sound exactly like the Jubilee you tried - they're the same thing. Just decide on from what you can remember from playing that Jubilee.

I had one and it was a solid sounding amp but, I thought it was going to be better than I expected! I just thought my marshall 2100 was a bit more pleasing to my ears so, I still own my 2100 but no longer have the Slash!

Though, I must say the Slash is halfway versatile for a Marshall!

Re: JCM SLASH model and the MARSHALL SILVER JUBILEE

I think the original Silver Jubilees or 25/50 Custom 50 watters work better than the 100 watt Slash for most live situations. The Jubilees (like most Marshalls) like to be loud enough for the power amp to be cooking a bit, and don't really come alive with the output master on 3 or 4 or even 5. With the master up to above 6 they are a very different amp. It's quite noticable. The 50 watt Silver Jubilees are not the loudest of 50 watt Marshalls, and you can get away with running much higher volume and gain settings, including the master.

Of course 50 watt 80's vintage are not as easy to find as the Slash reissue head. With these amps you can run them in triode (1/2 power), but it's a darker, smoother, voicing that many rockers don't like as much.

I say get it though....They are among the better Marshalls, and have a unique mojo.

Re: JCM SLASH model and the MARSHALL SILVER JUBILEE

what are the major differences with the JCM Slash and Silver Jubilee?

Re: JCM SLASH model and the MARSHALL SILVER JUBILEE

Well it's a RI so it has Dagnall RI tranny's
That to ME is a major difference

I have a 73 Plexi Metalface and NOTHING sounds as nasty as a DRAKE. Mercury's give you the cream, but you can't mod a collector's Item like a SLASH
