Got a JB trem spaced zebra pu recently in a trade - a little suspicious of its origin - would appreciate feedback from the wise owls of the forum -

is the three hole mounting a common feature ? also see sticker - usual format ?

see pics below

looks ok to me, AFAIK every SD trembucker has 3 holes, the central one is threaded and the outer ones are not

Re: Jeff Beck TB - real ? OEM ? or Fake ?

What's the purpose of the 3 holes? Is it to retrofit into the 3 screw style mounting?

No real purpose. It's just a silent testimony of yet another wasted opportunity, if you ask me. ;)

It's not all bad, though. If you purchase the right threading tool, you can tap'em yourself and finally put those useless, non-threaded holes to good use.

HTH,

Can't see any red flags. Any particular reason you are questioning the authenticity?

It seems odd to counterfeit a pickup as ubiquitous as the JB.

Thanks guys for reassurance - Ive no rxperience of trem spaced SD humbuckers
until now - 3 hole format confused me as other SD HB ive had were single hole on pickup
mounting bracket.

I agree with all previous posts, this pickup looks like the real thing, so no worries amigo! :fing2:

I seem to recall someone from Duncan got on here and commented that the extra holes on the trembucker plate were legacy from an idea they had that was abandoned and they just never changed the baseplate after that. (My uninformed assumption/guess is they may have been looking into pairing a 4-hole ring with it so you could manage tilt better.)

Re: Jeff Beck TB - real ? OEM ? or Fake ?

Some guitars have 3-hole mount humbuckers and rings though (3 points being more stable and adjustible than 4)

However, the holes in that pickup look like someone tried to use them. Hard to tell from the pic, though.

Re: Jeff Beck TB - real ? OEM ? or Fake ?

The 3 holes give the option of pickgaurd / ring mounting or direct mount. The springs usually create enough tension to keep pg or ring mounted pickups stable with just one screw. Direct mount is less likely to tip forward or backward if you use both of the outer holes.

And yes, it looks legit to me as well.

Yes,
3 hole and your tilt problems go away. One side-1screw, the other side-screws.
Here is an easy fix, I did it myself. Take a standard p'up ring screw....hardware store....find a small nut that fits tight. Solder that under one of the extra holes, and you now have a 3 way modded pickup ring.
