Jeff Beck's live rig...

Hey Guys,

When i saw Jeff Beck at the BB King Blues Fest last year, he ran into a 3 stacks of Marshall DSL's, it sounded like he used Greenbacks in his cabs. I know he uses a Rat in front of his amps, but would he have ran it into the clean channel or one of the drive channels? Obviously i dunno much about how to use distortion pedals...

Usually it's the clean channel, isn't it?

I'm guessing because I tried to use a distortion pedal on the distortion channel and got a whole bunch of noisy feeback and it sounded really bad, but when on the clean channel it sounded good

The Rat can be used as a clean boost as well as a distortion/fuzz pedal and works well in both the clean and gained channels. I have no Idea how Jeff runs his rig, but when I run my Rat into the high sensitivity channel of my JCM 800 mostly for boost with a bit of distortion his live tone gets fairly apparent.
