Jerry Cantrell demos his Friedman signature amp (vid)

Re: Jerry Cantrell demos his Friedman signature amp (vid)

I wish I would have went to see him last month when he came here to Cleveland.

I can't say that I'm blown away or hear anything special, but then again, I'm not right there actually playing through the amp.

it sounds rockin', for sure...but i also hear a tremendous amount of note articulation from lows to highs. Bass is full and fat, but it's tight as hell too. Can't really make too much from the treble, but I guess it's voiced in such a way that it doesn't sound harsh or grating.

I dig my orange thunderverb 50 more, but I could see how that friedman is appealing, the brown eyed girl other channel is really aweseome too with the dynamics going from clean to dirty depending on how you pick notes

The amps and guitars can come and go with Jerry, but when I hear those G&L's......that's THE Cantrell sound. For heavy rock, Cantrell pretty much has the definitive humbucker G&L sound.....or maybe it's the Kahler. It's not Gibson or Fender.....I can tell because I know those tones. When he's playing a G&L, he sounds like him. Single coil Legacy too.

Having heard Jerry play live twice through his Friedman rig... it sounds AMAZING and it's crushingly loud. Like a big rolling ball of fire. No YouTube vid is gonna capture what it's like to play through one of those amps. Ya gotta do it in person.

That massive crunch yet clarity is pretty spectacular... I do think he could sound that way through anything though. It's gotta be a combo of several things, but his hands and touch at the top.
