Jerry D. vs. Twang Banger in a Strat

I found several threads recommending the Twang Banger, but...

I really loved the tones of the Tele Lead pickups (especially the Jerry D.).

So I would like to hear your opinions about how a Jerry Donahue would sound in a strat.

Does the Twang Banger in a strat sound more "tele-like" than a tele lead pickup in a strat?

Thanks.

Re: Jerry D. vs. Twang Banger in a Strat

I had a TwangBanger for a short time, that I traded or sold precisely because it sounded exactly like a Tele. That wasn't bad, its just that I have two Tele's and didn't need that "tone". If you want the bridge to sound like a Tele, you can't beat the TB.

Re: Jerry D. vs. Twang Banger in a Strat

I've got a TB in my Strat, because I prefer the bridge Tele tone with the versatility of a Strat. I'm not sure if the TB sounds exactly like a Tele, but its close.

The Jerry Donahue will be louder and bigger sounding...I've compared them. The coils are not the same size, BTW: you can't put a Strat pickup cover on the Tele bridge pickup because the Tele coil is bigger. Lew

Yeah I was wondering about that myself? The 2 bridge pickups don't fit each other's bridge positions...

Exactly, pretty much best of both worlds.

Yeah, I know that I would need to get a pickguard cut for the Jerry Donahue. The body is routed for a humbucker, so I guess it wouldn't be a problem.

What I was wondering is the following: since the two guitars are very different, maybe the Twang Banger would sound more like a Tele (in a strat) than a Jerry Donahue in a strat. I guess the guys at Seymour Duncan have designed the Twang Banger to compensate for the differences between a Tele and a Strat. The Jerry Donahue was designed to be used in a Tele, then it would not sound like a tele if put in a strat...

Maybe I should just try a Twang Banger...

Thanks guys.

I Own 2 Teles, but even so,the Twangbanger is my favorite current bridge pickup for a strat without going into bridge humbuckers....It's not totally Tele sounding anyway...A Tele still sounds like a Tele..

I Know you like the Phat Cat alot....I just don't like the cosmetics about it in my strat I guess....I'm a Surfer/Texas Hot and Twangbanger bridge position kinda guy with my strats....One of my strats has a Dimarzio Fred and a set of APS2s,but other than that I stay s/s/s for all of my other strats....I Own like 5 Fender strats and I'm a strat guy all the way!

i have owned both, and the twangbanger is a great remedy for a strat, but it doesnt really touch the JD in my opinion. The JD sounds stronger, louder, and and more harmonically complex to me. Perhaps it has to due with the fact that i found an amazing telecaster and that this tele is just better sounding than the old strat i used to have. either way, the twangbanger is still a really cool pickup, has a middy tone that beefs up the strat bridge pickup sound

I agree.....I Like the TB for my strats, but if I were going for a better Tele bridge pickup,I wouldn't opt for the Twangbanger..
