Jerry Donahue uses SSL2 in his tele neck!

I've been looking for a good match for JD and I found the following interview.

"(Johnny) (A)What is yóu're neck pick-up on your Telecaster?

(Jerry) THE NECK PICKUP IS A DUNCAN SSL ll [flat poles] FOR STRATOCASTERS - (For me it's the best possible mate, to the JD Tele bridge pickup!!)."

Thanks, Brisk...I'm considering a JD and I'm happy to hear you like yours. I had a Japanese JD Tele a while back and it sounded great, especially with the special wiring.

Is it me, or does your cat look like an alien? Have you found crop circles in your yard? One of our cats has that same look...so we named him "Roswell." :) Cute picture.

Re: Jerry Donahue uses SSL2 in his tele neck!

I have a Strat with a Twangbanger bridge pup and SSL-1 neck and mid, and they sound pretty good to me. My JD Tele lead is paired with a Phat Cat neck, and that's a great combo (RWRP, too).

Re: Jerry Donahue uses SSL2 in his tele neck!

Actually, in the mid-'90s Jerry switched his neck pickup from an SSL-2 to an APS-2.

Two interesting things of note:

1) Peavey has just released Jerry's guitar as the "Omniac." (Someday, I'll tell you a funny story about how that guitar was named.)

2) Jerry has two of the best ears I've ever had the pleasure of working with. And his fingers ain't bad either.

I'd like to hear that story....

About Jerry's pickups.... The Hellecasters' website hasn't been updated since 1990 something....

I have seen over on the TDPRI. I don't really care for the looks of the guitar itself. IMHO, it looks like a weak attempt to redesign a perfect design...
