Jim Dunlop Crybaby

Re: Jim Dunlop Crybaby

For a Hendrix wah, you're better off with his signature model :P

For Slash, not sure sorry.

Instead of just Dunlop, VOX makes a good wah pedal or so I've heard.

Re: Jim Dunlop Crybaby

i just had the ordinary one and it rocked.

the original one could do both hendrix and slash im pretty sure.

the upgraded one has controll over the sweep and i think the dime one has more range ?

not sure

Re: Jim Dunlop Crybaby

I have a GCB-95 and it's fine. If I was buying new though, I'd get one of the ones with the Fasel inductors just to see what the fuss was all about.

I'm thinking about exchanging mine for the 95Q though. I'd like the auto-off, Q control, and the upto +15db boost features. Never found one to play it though, so I can't comment on the sound quality of these things.

Re: Jim Dunlop Crybaby

One problem with the original (and most) Dunlops and Vox's are that they tend to shave the highs off your signal, when turned off. Most newer designs have true bypass switches.

One Dunlop I really loved, but sold like an idiot, was the Mr. Crybaby Super
That pedal doubles as a volume pedal, when off. They discontinued it, but I think they started making it again. Those were cooler than most.

If I were you, I'd buy either (In order of price)
Fulltone Clyde
Teese (any)
Budda Bud Wah (Designed by budda, manufactured by Dunlop)
Dunlop 535Q

Those are the only 4 I'd buy. I have a Budda and like it a lot, but want a Clyde.

Re: Jim Dunlop Crybaby

lol anyone played that killer wail? (what a name)

cant remember who makes it but it got good reviews.. i remember it was more expensive than a crybaby

Re: Jim Dunlop Crybaby

i am really happy with my new 535Q - i was afraid it would be a tone suck when 'off', but it preserved my tone nicely ... i use the power supply, so i dont know if that is helping or not ... it is versatile and gets the job done ... the one with the volume pedal built in sounds like it would be very useful indeed

This is the GJ mentioned. From what I hve heard it is the one to have. I have a stock Vox which is very good. I have a Vintage Crybaby (Thomas organ Co.) and I have a Vox Clyde McCoy model. I use the Clyd mostly. It works real well for me. But if I could get that Hendrix thing I would go with whatever gives me that sound.

Re: Jim Dunlop Crybaby

One day i'll get me a wah. The Morleys advertise their non-pot operated electro optical circuitry (i think thats what they call it), and mention the lack of pots to wear out. Is wearing out pots in a wah a serious problem? Will a normal wah last? Sorry to hijack!

Re: Jim Dunlop Crybaby

I own the Dime sig. Crybaby From Hell DB-01 wah. It's a pretty awesome wah pedal. I don't notice any tone sucking or loss of highs from it.

In fact, a lot of my pedals aren't true bypass, I've plugged straight into the amp and then straight into my pedalboard without noticing any tone differences. I guess I'm just lucky.

Re: Jim Dunlop Crybaby

The point of the older robbing you of your 'highs" is definitly a bummer, & true. I have a old Crybaby that did just that. so I rigged it with additional switch that would bypass the pc board when in the "OFF" mode and when you stepped on it to "wah-away", the pedal would hit both switches, one turning on the wah-mode and the other turning off the bypass. It worked great and still does. However, the pedal is now shot and I too am looking for a new Wah.

I'm thinking of the Q-pedal Crybaby because of the mode dial it has, but there's talk of Joe Satch doing a wah with Peavey now that they put his JSX amp. I might have to wait.

Boze.

Re: Jim Dunlop Crybaby

I've always used the plain old Dunlop wah. works and sounds great on Hendrix and Page to a lot of other stuff. MrHM.

Re: Jim Dunlop Crybaby

The Crybaby from Hell as well as the 535Q should do you fine. Both have adjustible db boosts and a Q knob to choose the kind of sweep you want. Very important! Something you can't do with the Origional, which I replaced myself. The CFH is very nice because it also allows you to choose the frequencies it will accentuate and features an 2 LEDs, one notifying if it is powered, the other if it is activated.

Re: Jim Dunlop Crybaby

i have the gcb-95. It sucks a lot of tone out when in the off position. Only spent $30 used for it so its all cool. I would definitely look for a true bypass or do a mod to the gcb-95. Anybody know how I could do that?

Re: Jim Dunlop Crybaby

i have the crybaby original.... it was a good deal, but id say save up for a better one. it doesnt have very good range and i just dont like the sound.
