If you play along with the song you will notice that at 2:12 when the solo starts you will be slightly out of tune showing that he solo was later dubed and it was done with a different guitar, not to mention that the tone of the guitar is drastically different. If you listen starting at 2:07 and going until 2:12 you can hear Jimmy bending the strings behind the nut (try that on a Les Paul) the solo ends at 2:48 and you wil notice that if you are playing along with the record you will be back in tune now. Another solo starts at 3:07 and ends at 3:39, this solo is in tune with the rest of the track and has a very different tone from the first solo (2:02-2:48). The first solo is just Jimmy and a Telecaster (I have no idea what amp he is plugged into) and the second solo (3:07-3:39) would be the solo on a Les Paul.

I guess we are all right!

Does anybody else see/hear it like that?

Page doesn't even remember and I'm only stating what I've read in more than 1 Page article on the subject...I do know that the 2nd album was all about Lps and Marshalls though...

Grabbing the G string behind the nut is easy on a LP and I figured out he was doing that ages ago. I can do it on the b string as well but with the b string accuracy counts.

Joe Perry is another guy that grabs the b string and gives it a tug from time to time.

No biggy on a LP, just takes a little practice.

If it is true, then no, that's not normal. Pull out the jack (unscrew the plate on the side) and check to see if it's actually a shielded wire with the conductor going to the tip terminal and the shield going to the sleve terminal. This is what truely grounds the guitar.


Wah, huh?!? Tele into his brand new Marshall? I remember something special about that solo... I thought it was LP into Marshall.

SORRY YEAH YOU WERE RIGHT THERE IS A BARE AND A WHITE GOING TO THE INPUT JACK. ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS. IS MY PICKUP BAD?

Probably not. Your hum is most likely caused by a bad pot or a grounding issue.

When I play my guitar there is a loud hum when I have my hand off any metal on the guitar and when i put my hand back on it stops as if im the ground. We have ran a continuity test and all metal object are grounded to one another. Im stumped like a chump please help! :smack:

This wasnt happening when i had the stock pickups in before the pearly gates. Right now i have the pearly gates in the bridge and the stock in the neck could this have something to do with it?

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Sounds like a wiring issue to me also(Grounds)...

But im getting grounds on all the metal parts including the pickups. Also this dosent happen when i use my mini battery powered amp just my bigger amp plugged into the wall.

There should be a wire that disappears into a hole in the side of the control cavity -- this is a ground wire that goes up to the bridge to ground the strings and hardware. Check to see if there's a wire sticking out of a hole in the side of the control cavity that's not connected to anything. If yes, solder it to the back of one of the pots and your hum problem should go away.

1. No its not an amp problem because my other guitar does not have this issue when playing through the amp.

2. Yes there is a wire coming out of the sside of the control cavity and it is already soldered to a pot.

Any more suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
