Jimmy Vaughn Sig Strat

I've been thinking about getting one of these. Some descriptions mention that it's made from poplar wood. But I thought they were alder. Is there much difference between poplar and alder. I'm thinking the white one is sweet.

I picked up a JV Strat about 2 weeks ago, and I could not be happier! The first few year or so, they were poplar, then Alder, then for a few years they were a bit of both. In the past year or so they have all (supposed to have) been alder. They are all very consistant, and they are great! They have the same tuners, bridge, switch and pots that come on Custom Shop reissue guitars. They have Schaller strap locks from the factory, they have one of the best necks Fender makes right now, and even the stock pups are pretty damn good, they measure around 6.5k for the neck and middle and right at 7.5k for the bridge...and best of all the 2nd tone control works on the bridge pickup!!! I will tell you what Lew told me...go play as many as you can and get the one that sounds the best. I played almost a dozen of them before getting mine...and like you I wanted the white one, but I ended up with a black one...the white one was good, real good in fact, but the black one blew it away. Good luck with your hunt, and feel free to ask any questions if you need anything!

My drummer bought one and he loves it. It is a solid guitar. He has a a 96 2-tone burst. The Tex-Mes pickups are wonderful too. Great guitar.

The only complaints I have are just preference ones, I wish the neck was bigger overall. and I wish the fretboard was a larger radius. Those are just personal preferences.

There are 3 GC's within driving distance...each of them had 2, a local shop called Dirt Cheap had one (beat to hell, red, with DiMarzio's) and another local shop had 4 used ones...one black one red, one burst, and one black...I got up early on a Saturday and made my rounds, then I went back and got the black one!

Re: Jimmy Vaughn Sig Strat

Thanks. We have a whole mess of Guitar Centers around LA. I'll look for a good one.
