JP Wiring diagram on this site?

Does this thing work?

http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=jp_style

I tried it and couldn't get it to work - so I brought my guitar to a tech and he couldn't get it to work either.

Then I noticed it looks different from this one:

http://www.gibson.com/relations/schematics/diagrams/pagewiring.pdf

so what's the deal? If it's different and doesn't work right, why is it still on this site. It seems very misleading.

Re: JP Wiring diagram on this site?

Yes that one works great - that's actually based on the schematic from Gibson.

I'm just wondering why SD has a diagram still on their site that doesn't work.

Re: JP Wiring diagram on this site?

Well this is confusing! This month's Guitar Player has the same diagram on its last page. :wrf: I was all set to wire that up but now, who knows if it even works?

I think I'm going with the 'official'. Or maybe not?

I used to Gibson one and it works great. I love it.

Do you mean this one?

Re: JP Wiring diagram on this site?

This one was drawn by ArtieToo in combination with Gibson so YES, IT WORKS!.

I just noticed that your quoted me wrong - I was asking about a different diagram that remains on the SD site even though it's faulty.

That schematic is missing a connection between the neck coil tap and the neck pickup volume control dpdt. Arties diagram of the Gibby JP wiring is correct though.

The funky schematic in question is one that I used to see at the guitarelectronics.com site and attempts to wire around the 3 way switch not having seperate "output" terminals. Some non-gibson guitars have shallow 3way switch cavities and also have a hard connection at the "output". If you cannot seperate the "output" side of the 3 way you cannot use the Gibson diagram. The part of that schematic that gets sketchy is the series/parallel (neck tone) dpdt. The rest of the schematic is the same as the Gibson IIRC.

So that is why it is still on the site. Most of the funtions work but there are some quirks that happen when you have a hard connect at the 3 way switch.

For years I have been steering people to the Gibson schematic whenever it is possible and have been telling people that have a hard connect 3 way switch to change them out whenever possible. Artie was finally kind enough to diagram that schematic and his is the diagram I always tell people to use.

Herms' diagrams look interesting but I am not going to trace the signal path and check them over before my second cup oif coffee this morning.

I am glad you finally got it all worked out. I am sort of the volunteer resident JP wiring troubleshooter around here and I normally jump right on to JP wiring questions as soon as I seem them in the Pickup Lounge to try and save the members from going through what you just did.

If anyone has JP wiring questions, please feel free to PM me. I just got the nicest PM from one of the members that I helped troubleshoot the JP wiring awhile back and I am always willing to help out anyone that I can with this.

I am glad to hear that you got it working. It isn't the easiest wiring job even with the proper schematic!

Yes, I think that was a result of converting the drawing to a gif. It's there in the pdf version. MY problem now is finding out if a push/pull will fit into an SG cavity. I have another thread asking about that, but I may just have to buy one and try it.

Thanks for your input!
