jumpering the effects loop

i love everyone

i was perusing the local used music store the other day, and noticed that some of the amp heads with effects loops had a little 6-inch instrument cable going from the effects send to the effects return. i was just wondering what this does to the sound as opposed to having nothing plugged into the send and return.

Re: jumpering the effects loop

It shouldn't affect it at all, minus the effect that an extra six inches of cable between the preamp and power amp sections could have.

Unless an amp with a series effects loop requires a jumper when not in use. I couldn't tell you if that's the case or not. Seems like a rather foolish way to design it, so it's probably not the case.

With a parallel loop that has a blend control I guess you could see if the loop had any effect on the tone but I don't see any specific reason there would be need for it maybe its just there incase someone wants to try a pedal in the loop.

I've seen it written somewhere that you can use it to set 2 different volume levels. When you engage the loop, set for a lower volume, you have your rhythm sound. Disengage the loop and you get a hike in volume for solos, but no real change in tone.
