Just bought an Alnico 6 bar mag and an Alnico 3 bar to put into a set of Custom Shop

Ok, so I had already tried an Alnico 5 in the neck of a LP Elegant with Custom Shop Pearly Gates...Well, the neck does sound different, but pretty much like ant standard A5 neck pickup...Not bad, not mind blowing...So I ended up looking around and I got an Alnico 6 bar and an A3 bar...I’m not sure if I want to put the A3 into the neck or bridge...I thought that the a6 neck could be something truly different, so I think I may go that route and put the A3 in the bridge...This is basically a “last attempt...As the pickups are ok imo, but they tint hold a candle to the 59/Custom and 78/Pearly Gates A5 set in my 59 RI, not to the WLH A5 and 78/JazzA2 in my LP Custome 57 RI Mahogany top.Considering both together were 10 bucks, thought it be worth a shot! The new J Bonamassa AMOS p/u’sare A6, so thought I’d give it a chance...Otherwise, probable going to go for an entirely new set of pickups...Anyonetry doing this type of mag swap? I’ve switched mags before, so I know I won’t destroy the pickups..Just want to try something new! Any info would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

That CS PG neck of yours will work very well with an A3, although it'll depend on what exactly you're trying to achieve, which you didn't actually say.

I love A3 in my neck Seth/Ant hybrid.

Definitely A6 in the bridge and A3 in the neck. I think A6 in the neck would be overpowering the A3 bridge.

sounds like you have some extra magnets on your hands, why not double up? there is room underneath, gonna need some glue because it takes force to hold the polarity right, double your mag field, double your output while keeping the tone, maybe mix and match, never tried it, going to soon. you could be the first kid on the block with a dual-hybrid super bucker!

Throw AlNiCo 3 in the neck (my favorite magnet for neck) and AlNiCo 6 in bridge. I wanted to do so myself, but I don't have one. I'm curious what that would sounde like.

I have that same set.

The magnets are Roughcast Alnico 2.

Polished Alnico 2 makes a pickup sound brighter and more lively...that’s what’s in the Seth Lover and probably the regular PG.

So try some polished A2 in that set, especially in the neck pickup.
