Just Bought Genz-Benz El Diablo 60 combo

holy cow man, i'm very excited about getting this amp. it should make an excellent compliment to my jvm 1/2 stack. i haven't made any soundclips yet, but i found one on the internet. it's a straight-through tone using this amp and it sounds fantastic. i got mine for $845 brand new.

this amp not only runs in 30 or 60 watt, it can use el34 or 6l6 tubes. i believe this guy was using 6l6s in this clip. check it out:

Sounds like this guy found some pretty sweet tones out of that combo. Nice score, don't forget to put up your own clips when you get it.

na, i needed a small but loud combo to pull it off. plus i had to sell my mesa to afford the JVM, that left me with just enough for the el diablo. i'm set now :biglaugh: did you hear my jvm sound sample? what did you think of that? still don't like the reverb?

wait what's the story here?.. you sold your mesa (what's u have?) in order to afford a jvm halfstack and an el-diablo combo?.. what's the deal here *says the loyal mesa customer*

Yeah I kinda think its an odd choice too but everyone likes a different vibe I guess. I'm a mesa man myself and not so into the genz benz stuff but I will say that the jvm is a helluva an amp.

don't get me wrong, i liked the mesa a lot, but i wanted the jvm much more. i've always wanted a really good marshall tube amp. i was short a few hundred when i sold my dsl 100, so i sold the mesa and used the extra cash to get the marshall. then i used what was left to get the genz-benz. if you think about it though, the mesa express and the el diablo are pretty similar.

the el diablo has 30 or 60 watt mode, but also has the ability to switch between el34 or 6l6 tubes. they both have great cleans, but i didn't think a whole lot of the distortion on either. that being said, i thoght the mesa crunch channel was terrific. it just doesn't have a lot of drive.

in the end, it was a pretty good trade-off.

You seem to go through amps pretty frequently. I'm interested in hearing what you think of the El Diablo though since it's the same amp I use. Mine's loaded with 6l6 tubes, I never even heard what it sounds like with the stock el34's. The cleans are great and very warm. I find them very Bassman-like. And there really is a great variety of gain tones all the way from classic to modern. I recently was having some troubles getting enough treble and mids from the amp until I restrung all my guitars. More than any other amp I've ever owned, the El Diablo is really a night and day difference with fresh strings. All the treble, mids, and dynamics are there. But as soon as the strings have a little playtime on them the amp starts sounding a little flat. I know this is true of all amps but the El Diablo really much so for whatever reason.

great amp and great price for what it offers. i don't think the strings have a lot to do with it until it's been about 4-5 days of constant practice for me. i clean my strings daily and used d'aldario strings, but they only last about 5-7 days and sound nasty with any amp once they go bad. i don't think there's any particular thing about the el diablo except that it has very particular picking dynamics and a different feel. it doesn't feel as wet as my marshall or mesa did without using the compression. it's definitely a different feel, but hte tone is good. great amp for the money.
