Just bought GT-8!

Well my GT-8 arrived today! A day earlier than I thought, which was a nice surprise!

I've gone through all the presets (there are some friggin useless ones!) and am starting to tinker with my own creations.

It can be pretty hard avoiding the killer bees, but I'm starting to find ways around it. Also, I'm finding it pretty hard to get a good punchy bass sound. Sometimes it just ends up being super flabby, or just sounds like a speaker distorting... I think I might have to check the levels & make sure I'm not clipping anywhere... I haven't really tinkered with the tone modify or eq yet, so I hope I can fix it there!

Wish me luck boys, I'm goin in DEEP...

Pro Audio. They are in Canberra, but they mainly do mail orders, Real good guys to deal with. It was $899 and then delivery is like $20 or something. If you have a World of Music store near you I they are sellin em for $899 these days too.

www.proaudio.com.au

Information Ph: (02) 6249 7766
Orders Ph: 1800 026 307

Just call the orders line and ask for a gt-8 if you are certain you want one. Otherwise order a catalog from the site. It will take a few days, but it is like a freakin novel!

What are you playing through? If its an amp you have to play around with the input control. I have the GT 6 and found some amps were hard to get it to sound right. But my little Roland Cube 30 worked fine. Did you try it straight through a P.A. . I think thats the best way to use the GT 8.
Let me know, cause I'm still up in the air between the XT Live and the GT8

It's a tough machine to get into if you're not familiar with the GT-series. You may find this setup document very handy. It's made by Barry Pearce of the Yahoo GT-3 users group, and written for the GT-3 and GT-5. You can just as well use it for the GT-6 and GT-8 though. It tells you everything the Boss manual doesn't. You can find it here. It helps you get used to the GT, and obtain a good sound, whilst avoiding any digital aliasing or clipping. It's quite a large document, but it's worth the read.

Re: Just bought GT-8!

Thats a cool looking unit, but I can't believe how you guys "down-under" get screwed on the exchange rate . . . or something. MF has these for $445.

Anyway, one of the things I noticed when I first got my J-Station is, you kinda have to adapt to the tone characteristics of such a unit. Sorta like discovering beer. ;)

Perhaps, you can post some clips after you get it dialed in.

I hope that's Australian dollars, and not US Dollars :nervous: :eek5: :eyecrazy:

Re: Just bought GT-8!

I love my unit. I get a great variet of clean, OD, and distorted sounds.

Learn to use the tone modify and EQ. I think that's what pushes this unit over the top. PM me and I'll give you some settings. :burnout:

Well at the the moment I'm going into the Power amp in on a Peavey Bandit, but I disconnected it's speaker and am using a Marshall 4x12 as an extension cab. The output of the bandit is 100W (only solid state though) but it goes ok for home use.

(OT:does anyone know if the effects return or pwr am in is better? Why?)

Thanks! I've been around on the bossgtcentral forums a bit too, but it looks like everything is in one place in this document! 158 pages, sheesh that's bigger than the boss manual!!!

Tell me about it! When they first came out they (and the gt-6) were about $1,200AUD!!!

Haha, maybe my ears are still used to that horrible processed sound of my old Digitech RP-7!!! I will certainly post some clips! I have lots of songs that I have recorded on my old rig, but wouldn't think of punishing your ears with them!! I look forward to re-doing them soon!
