Just did a shootout of all my guitars

CTN

The Drama Dude
well, the humbucker loaded ones anyway...three of em

the jolly roger cutlasscaster, the CTN Polaris, and the Epi SG.

1st place - Cutlasscaster. It's all there. growl, cut, chewiness, tightness, screaming mids, smooth highs, effortless playing, tone machine through and through.

2nd place - CTN Polaris. killer tones for the most part but I find myself once again feeling like the JB is just slightly off. I normally like JBs in alder body bolt ons, which the Polaris is, but the slight flub in the low end and the empty-ish low mids leave me wanting something more. The Custom RCA3 in my cutlasscaster just sounds so much fuller and more pleasing.

dead last - Epi SG. Not necessarily cuz it's an Epi. The '59 8B/4N combo is great and all, and the mahogany adds a nice growl (or maybe that's the A8), but it just doesn't have the bright, "aliveness" that I've come to love about the alder/maple combination. Also the gibbo construction that still feels weird to me. It's not as easy to play as strats, for me.

I was playing a whole bunch of techincal death metal, swingin' blues, some classic rock stuff, cleans blah blah blah, put them through the ringer. Cutlasscaster won everything hands down.

And here she is.
