Just finished my JTM-45

Here it is. I pretty much sourced the parts from metro amps. The faceplate is a temporary add on, until I'm done with the head enclosure. This was my first build and was a ton of fun. I learned quite a bit and will certainly do it again. Chip's Princeton Reverb is certainly a motivator.

Dave - it doesn't look like you need any encouragement from me! Those big bottles are pretty :D

Did you follow a layout and schematic from Metro Amps for this build? Schematic Heaven shows at least 3 different "JTM 45" Marshalls. Do you have a link to the schematic?

Last but not least - we need gut shots! I showed you mine...

Re: Just finished my JTM-45

Hi Chip-

I followed Metro's schematic. you can get the whole shootin' match from their website. metroamp.com and look for the JTM kit and in the middle of the page you'll find a link to the step by step process-that's the one I followed. I used Mallory 150's, and maybe will get some Sozo's, but won't spend the cash on NOS Mustards, as I don't think my ears are all that discriminating.

I know some folks mess around with cap values, and MV, etc., but I'm not really sure I'll throw a master vol in there. There are a few guys who throw a PPIMV in their JTM's, and 50w Plexis and claim there's no loss of tone. I have an 18w tmb w/MV and I'm not sure it's the best thing for that particular amp. I'm starting to realize that a little vol and breathing room is something to behold!

I'll try and get you some gut shots...I'm babysitting right now, but she's asleep!

BTW-I'd like to talk to you about how you sourced your PR project. I've been looking at Marsh's kits for either a PR, or my all-time favorite amp, the Deluxe Reverb. I'm not exactly sure if I can go totally of a schematic to plan a layout for amps of that complexity. What do you think?

I think it looks awesome, Dave! Great stuff -- very neat and clean. More inspiration for me to give this a shot some day.

When do you anticipate having the entire thing done?

Re: Just finished my JTM-45

Thanks for the complements, Keith-if I can do this, anyone can do it with some time and patience. It's a great experience and attainable!

I'm hoping to have everything up and running within the next month or two, although the holidays are crazy. A good friend of mine has done a lot for me-so much that I can't really begin to repay him-he's taught me a lot on guitar and is like a brother to me. We both built one at the same time. He's got an extremely well-equipped shop with any tool under the sun that he let me use. So, the deal was that I'd front the amps, and he'd build the head enclosures and ext. cabs. As we speak, he's in the process of moving his shop to another location, so I can't imagine that we'll have the cabs done anytime soon.

Right now, I'm sniffing around for used speakers for the cabs. Any tips on where to go for 8 12's???

Re: Just finished my JTM-45

if you don't mind my asking, about how much did it all run for the head?? Looks fantastic!!

Re: Just finished my JTM-45

Dude that is the coolest thing ever! I want to make my own amp. How hard would it be/differece to make a JCM800?

Re: Just finished my JTM-45

What kind of cab are you going to build for it?

Make sure you get some pics when you get er done!
