Just finished this guitar

Two years ago, to this day, I started working on a guitar. I completed the guitar a year ago, around november. It was a nice guitar. Two piece hard northern ash body, single piece maple neck, ebony board. Carved face, telecaster setup. However, I wasn't satisfied with the guitar. It was the third to be exactly the same as the rest and I felt I needed to... stretch my luthiery legs a bit.

So I carved off the top. I added large chambers, which was an interesting challenge in and by itself since the guitar had a tummy cut.
I joined and glued on the top, making sure the centerline of the top and back lined up.
I routed F-holes, making sure there'd be enough clearance for the volume and tone pots (2 each), which was a challenge since the control cavity wasn't at the normal LP location due to the nature of the instrument when it was first conceived.
I routed for a trem.
I routed 3 humbuckers.
I carved the front, stained the top and finished her with ultra thin coats of shellac.

All the while maintaining the finish and color on the back.

I might go back and do the back and sides over again, but anyway... this is the result so far.

A Schaller trem, Gotoh tuners (had them laying around) and a set of Seymour Duncans to complete the picture. The knobs were turned out the body billet itself. The backplates are ebony, the head veneer is ebony too. Trussrod will be ebony, too. The pickups are an SH6N/Demon hybrid in bridge, 59/JazzN hybrid A5 in neck and a modified Phat cat (a5 instead of A2), plus a 5 way blade with a proprietary wiring.

hope you like her.

Sharp!

Needs Blk knobs,tho!
:)

YES! I agree. absolutely! I didn't have them, though... I may pop off the knobs, toast them (like I did with the back), and dye them translucent black. I like the way the controls are slanted, though. It's a more natural reach than with a regular LP. I'm gonna use this configuration on all my future builds. Same for the location of the 5 way. Really helps of not getting in the way when you don't want it but being in reach AND not interfering with what you believe is the normal spot for your controls.

on the right? That's ash, toasted, dyed, finished in clear shellac.

left: uh. I dunno. i was messing around with dyes and I had this in mind. like a contrast between white and dark.

So sorry! I meant the one on the right–love the grain and look of the dark and darker areas! Thanks!

Re: Just finished this guitar

Really like your guitars; I've perused most of your youtube vids and web stuff. Some awesome takes on a classic design w/a straightforward contemporary touch. Well done.
