Just got a Blues Driver and I don't like it that much...

Am I normal.... :13:

Seriously, I just found a BD-2 from a guy in the local classifieds... mint conditions, booklet, box... 70$ canadian... pretty good.

The thing is, I play around with the knobs and I can't find any setting that sounds that good to my ears. I mean, at a certain point it sounds OK over my marshall's clean channel but then I turn it off and turn the overdrive of the amp on and I'm like: ooooooooh, that sounds much better.... I can't seem to find a nice warm blues sound with it... it sounds so sterile and sharp...

does anybody have some settings to recommend, any tips??? I'm thinking about selling it if it doesn't satisfy me more than that....

Thanks,

The "not coming around so much anymore" Surgeon... ;)

Re: Just got a Blues Driver and I don't like it that much...

Try using the gain channel of your amp with the BD-2. Put the "gain" at a very low level and allow the pedal to boost the channel. It's worth a try.....

Let us know how did it go.

Re: Just got a Blues Driver and I don't like it that much...

Thanks Marin, I must admit I didn't try that... The pedal seems to have so much gain that I didn't even consider pushing my OD channel with it....

I'll give it a try later (it's 9 a.m. here) and tell you how it went...

Gracias again!

Re: Just got a Blues Driver and I don't like it that much...

Sometimes clean channels are designed NOT TO break easily with a pedal.

Re: Just got a Blues Driver and I don't like it that much...

Try to mod the blues driver. I know there are guys here who have modded their own blues driver, I want to say that Drew Half Empty has? I'm not positive, but I think Drew modded his blues driver. Maybe he'll see this and chime in.

Re: Just got a Blues Driver and I don't like it that much...

I also think the BD-2 works better as a boost for the overdrive channel.

Re: Just got a Blues Driver and I don't like it that much...

I've modded my BD-2 and really like the sound of it (kinda hard to explain, it's fuller and more crisp). I think that I posted the mod in the harmony-central database, but if you can't find it there just pm me. I still have the .txt file kicking around . . . and it's a pretty easy mod to do, you're just swapping out some resistors and capacitors.

Send it to Robert keeley and have him mod it. I like the Keeley modded BD-2 better than the original.

if u got a tube amp and u want blues

MXR zw-44 overdrive. \m/
u can run it thro a drity amp and get metal aswell

Re: Just got a Blues Driver and I don't like it that much...

I have a Bd-2. I use it as a boost on channel B (distortion). I also use it when im playing an acoustic through the clean channel, cause using an acoustic on channel B sounds bad on my amp. You may want to try it out on that situation. I really like mine

Re: Just got a Blues Driver and I don't like it that much...

I like the way it sounds when you turn the gain to about 3 and the tone way down. the tone on these pedals dosent work like a normal tone control.

Boss really went out of their way to make a different overdrive/distortion pedal with this one...Not one of my favorites and I don't currently own one either..

Re: Just got a Blues Driver and I don't like it that much...

I've thought the same thing about the BD-2 and the SD-1. Kinda thin, sterile and fizzy.

I'd love to have an OD pedal clinic to see if it's how I set them up with my amp or if my ears just don't like it.

I preferred the Voodoo Sparkle Drive over the two pedals above-much cleaner and warmer with no/minimal loss of bass response.

As long as Marin's on this thread-you could just ask him about his Banzai Fireball. Listen to his clips-they're amazing!

icepick highs, when it's stock hehe

maybe trying an EQ between the BD and the amp?

As soon as O get a spare 60 bux I'm gonna send mine off to him. I like the pedal well enough but it needs that extra kick.

I keep the level on mine at about 5, the gain at about 4, and the tone varies from 2-5 depending on how snarly I want the tone. It's a nice light overdrive my itself but it's really nice for goosing the gain channel of an amp and getting a little extra kick out of it.

B2D-

How does the BD boost your sound compared to the SD-1? I like some of the SD-1's characteristics, but for me it really sucks a lot of the tone out of the signal. Makes good gear sound cheaper.

Re: Just got a Blues Driver and I don't like it that much...

Thanks for all the replies guys!! I'll have a lot to try and think about....

I'll keep you updated with how I can make it sound...

thanks again!

Re: Just got a Blues Driver and I don't like it that much...

OK, I PM'd you my little bit about modding the BD-2 . . . hope it'll fix it up to your liking!
