Just got my RTM...

...and all I can say is "Wow!" Killer pickup! It's everything I hoped it would be. I installed it in my new Charvel Pro Mod, and it screams, it sings, it growls, it does everything I want. Now I just have to get two more for my Jackson Soloist and a custom superstrat...sigh, my wallet will not like me much anymore, lol.

Does this match your experience so far? I'd be interesed to know.

“What Seymour Duncan Custom Shop pickup is similar to the JB in output, but will give me a tighter low-end, more mid-range bite, and sweeter highs than the JB?” the RTM

I would too, because I wrote that review. :) It was certainly my experience with the pickup - I love the RTM.

Re: Just got my RTM...

Yes, the bottom end is tighter, no upper-mid spike but better low mids (it does have more bite), and the highs are smoother. There is a little compression overall but it's an all-around beefier tone. Mine spec'ed out at 17.59k. The notes bloom very well. I know it's just my opinion, but it's what the JB should have been all along.

LP82, congrats on finding one that really speaks to you; I love my RTM's as well. One of the best pickups for a super strat!

As far as cutting through: the JB has lots of cut from the upper mids. I wouldn't say the RTM cuts more....but just as much in a different manner. It does so with bigger and broader mids overall.

Re: Just got my RTM...

I will also add here that just throwing an A2 magnet in to a JB doesn't give you the RTM. You just end up with an A2 JB.
Cool in its own right.....but not an RTM.

Re: Just got my RTM...

I instantly was impressed with the RTM TB after I got it installed in a Kramer Super Strat and played it for pretty much the same sonic/tonality described above. Same when I picked up an Evenly Voiced Harmonics TB and had it installed in a Jackson Soloist. I'm currently holding into a Super V TB in anticipation that it will be another welcome addition to a future project.
