Just got the Line 6 Gearbox Gold for $99

I figured for $99 bucks what did I have to lose, retailed for $699 originally.

First off, it's a very easy software and unit to get up and running quick. After a few updates it was up and running with no issues. My PC is getting kind of old (Athon XP 2100, 2 GBs memory) yet seems to run flawlessly.

Second, I use Krystal recording software because it's free. Well Gearbox integrated flawlessly with it, was up and recording in about 2 minutes.

Third, the hardware portion has 2 analog outs. What I did was run that into my Vox vavletronix to function as my monitor, plus in reality it sounds pretty sweet if I use the clean model set pretty flat. If you wanted, you could use a amp, laptop, gearbox and have 300 amps ready to be used with effects.

The only real trouble I've had so far is getting the effects to sound the way i want. You have the option to place them pre or post but they don't seem to work when I place them in post.

Looks like they are out of the gold bundle but still have the silver if anyone would be interested. I'll try to get some clips up this weekend.

How are they "OUT" of the Gold Bundle --- It's a software download, is it not?

Enjoy it!

Dunno, got it from Musicians Friend. The package on their site was sold out which comes with the Toneport hardware. I'm sure you could buy the silver package which also comes with the Toneport hardware, but then you'd have to pay for the gold upgrade or something. Gold is 100+ amp models, silver is 28 models.

Several places are showing the gold bundle for $99, so grab it while you can.

is that instant drummer?
I dont want to try to be a drummer and try programming or looping drums.its what keeps me from recording more.

Yeah, pick your drum pattern, then you can adjust variables, along with measures, times signatures, beats per minute, etc.

But it's $9.99 per drum patterns library type, for example rock patterns, or metal patterns.

The one I used was one from the demo, only 9 patterns included.

Just updated the song, figured a better example would help.

EVH modded Plexi is the amp model. 57 mic on axis on a 4x12 1967 cab with vintage 20's. Don't think I added any effects, maybe just a little reverb but can't recall if I added it to final mix.

Maybe I'll do some brootal metal next!

Re: Just got the Line 6 Gearbox Gold for $99

Some retailers are now saying that you can buy the silver bundle which is $99 and get a free upgrade to the gold when you register it online, so same net difference

Re: Just got the Line 6 Gearbox Gold for $99

One cool thing I found about the Gearbox software is that every parameter can be controlled by midi. They don't seem to document this very well (if at all) but its defiantly implemented.

Midi CC4 for example controls the wah sweep though it was a heck of a time figuring that out lol

All in all for $99 though you can't go wrong.

Its a really nice USB interface included in there to boot. You don't have to run it with Gearbox either. I've used it with Amplitube and Guitar Rig as well. ASIO4ALL drivers work even better on those programs and get latency down to a few miliseconds.

Theres some fairly cool effects in there as well with the gold bundle. 80 effects models or something I think it is and some are sort of wacky yet kind of fun. Stuff like the ring mod's for example. Basically all the fx of the purple pedal they have for example. Fun to mess around with but not somethng you'd want to pay alot of money for. But you basically getting all that stuff for free with the bundle price so you can't go wrong.

Even if your not into software or fx, I think for the money this is a must have for any guitarist just because its fun and can open some new creative options. Great for late nights, great for recording some idea's, great for being able to jam over some backing tracks, great for playing around with some wacky effects you wouldnt want to normally buy etc

Re: Just got the Line 6 Gearbox Gold for $99

Any quick tips for getting good tone with this? I just got mine and played around a little bit but haven't gotten that great a sound yet, especially higher gain. I tried it a little using a keyboard amp, then my Line 6 amp... maybe I'll try my computer speakers next?

I dont find it excels at high gain, something like Revalver MKIII or Amplitube Metal seems a bit nicer for that.

The difference cabs make a really big difference, as does having some good monitor speakers. PC speakers are usually made to really amp up the bass for modern music and they can sound quite muddy for music production.

Turning off the cab model and running into a guitar cab works pretty well though. Just dont run an amp model into a guitar amp, doesnt sound good

Re: Just got the Line 6 Gearbox Gold for $99

Being Line 6 I figured it would excel at high gain! I hope I didn't just waste 100 bucks, man. Though I'm sure I'll have better results after messing with it for a while.

Did you get the free Gold upgrade?

Re: Just got the Line 6 Gearbox Gold for $99

Yeah just register it and you'll find you have all the add on packs given to you

Re: Just got the Line 6 Gearbox Gold for $99

I bought a Toneport GX a few months ago. Ever since I registered it I receive "last chance to upgrade to gold for $99" spam emails about once every two weeks.

You had to buy the bundled one to be able to get the upgrade for free. It was actually say on the unit "gold" or "silver"

Actually they just decieded to allow the silver upgrade because the golds were out of stock everywhere

Sadly as with all L6 promotions, if you bought something earlier you would be out of luck, as annoying as that is.

If you ask me, they should allow anyone with the silver bundle to have the gold upgrade, not just those who bought it in the past few weeks
