Just got to turn up the JMP.

I got it up to 6.5 on the master. Dimed the gain and ran an SD1 with the level cranked. I'm feeling good about it since nothing seemed to be wrong and it died at 4 last time.

AND OH BOY DOES IT SOUND SWEET!!!

First thing I played was Master of Puppets. Nothing else sounds like this amp. It crunches so **** good. Got the EL34's breaking up a bit and they sing sweetly. Thank God for ear plugs.

great amps.... but yes you will need those ear plugs.... will you ever be able to use that volume somewhere?

Re: Just got to turn up the JMP.

Hee hee...

Unfortunately thats how ya have to run them...but there's nothing like a older marshall with some volume on it :bigthumb:

Yeah, the younger bands here usually play shows with short sets, unmic'ed, at places where you can turn up. Nobody *****es about volume. Kids play stacks. Now the bars around here would turn me around at the door I'm sure.

To give you an idea of what I mean, most of the hardcore bands around here play 5150s. A friend of mine plays one and at his last show he was at about 4 on the volume. Could easily get away with 30-40 watts cranked, but you need some power.

ya i was using a 5150 stack to gig a few years back as well.... outdoor shows it was great!!!! my 2204 800 head sounds like it is more piercing to the ear drum then the 5150 is..... seems to slam the ear hard....

Re: Just got to turn up the JMP.

Yeah this is a 2204. It cuts very well. A 5150 is smoother. Luckily the presence knob is very effective on this amp. Actually the whole eq is very effective, which I didn't expect.

Re: Just got to turn up the JMP.

I had a 1978 JMP and a 1983 or 4 JCM800, both 2204s. Amazing amps.

You're hooked now. Low volume just won't be good enough anymore... :D

Cool you got your Marshall going man...I'm sure it sounds pretty darn good....don't worry about the ear plugs, for now. Sometimes you need that sonic-head-cleansing that only a cranked 50/100W tube amp can provide.

Re: Just got to turn up the JMP.

In my never ending quest for the perfect tone I think the JMP/JCM's are probably the only amps that'll get me there.......how about a Hot Plate?

Re: Just got to turn up the JMP.

Been using a JMP MkII that is over a friend's home recording studio...I understand!!!
