Hey there everyone.
I had a post going last week about replacing my Tele lead pickup, which was a Hot Lead that turned out to be "malfunctioning". I considered a Quarter Pounder, but ultimatley went with a JD to sort of match the Antiquity in the neck. I also installed the 4 way switch mod which I HIGHLY RECCOMEND to any Tele players out there.
The Jerry Donahue is a great pickup. It was everything I hoped for to be honest. I havent heard or tried most/all the Tele pickups like I have the Humbuckers, but this has got to be in the top 3 best Tele pickups SD makes.
The sound is like you sat in front of your amp and tweaked the EQ knobs until it sounded perfect. It's that balanced. The sharp, edgy Tele spank is there, bright and slightly hotter than vintage, but not as nasal and shrill as vintage Tele pickups....maybe I would consider it medium output, the twangy, gutsy mids are there, I tried a glass slide and it was sweet as mom's apple pie. plenty of character in the midrange......The lows are not puny like most vintage Tele pickups, either. I wouldnt use words like beefy or fat, but maybe punchy and thick are better words.....overall this pickup just sparkles and at the #4 position (in series with the Antiquity neck) the entire guitar roars with classic Tele blues-rock tones.
Thank you guys for the reccomendations. I would never have tried the JD if not for the fellas on here plugging it. You guys rock......literally.....
