Just installed SSL6 in bridge...noise issues!

Hi,
I just installed a noiseless SSL6 into the bridge with an APS1 RW in the middle and seem to be generating more noise when I am using BOTH the bridge and middle. Shouldn't I be getting less noise given that I have a noiseless bridge and a RW middle pup???
Thx Primo.

Re: Just installed SSL6 in bridge...noise issues!

Do you mean a STK-S6?

If that's the case, the RW middle pickup won't make a difference. The STK-S6 cancels hum on its own and the APS-1 doesn't, so you'll be adding the APS's hum to the STK-S6 whenever you combine the two. If your bridge pickup is a SSL-6 OTOH, it should be very quiet when combined with the APS-1RW, but both pickups will hum on their own.

The only way to have a completely noiseless Strat is to use noiseless pickups in all three positions. SD doesn't make a Strat stack with A2 poles, so your only options would be SKT-S4s (pretty sure they're A5) or going through the Custom Shop for A2 stacks.

yes all the stack plus pups are alnico 5, at least for now.

assuming you do have the stks6, you can split it in the notch position so it is humcancelling with the rw/rp aps1

Re: Just installed SSL6 in bridge...noise issues!

One stack plus one single coil equals three coils. This combination cannot possibly be totally noise-cancelling.

Re: Just installed SSL6 in bridge...noise issues!

Yes I did mean stk-s6, ok that makes sense. If I get a STK-S4m for the middle, can I still get the "quack" when combining the bridge and middle?

Thx

Re: Just installed SSL6 in bridge...noise issues!

if you split the bridge when mixed with the middle pup it will be humcancelling. if you get a stks4m it will be humcancelling in bridge, bridge/middle/, and middle positions

Re: Just installed SSL6 in bridge...noise issues!

Important to notice that if you split the bridge stack you must pick the right coil to get in-phase and hum-canceling. Otherwise you get hum and out of phase.

That is assuming you already have opposite magnetic polarity already.

Re: Just installed SSL6 in bridge...noise issues!

You can split the stk in the notch position. Wire it like you would an hss strat with auto splt, except white goes to the hot side, red is the coil tap, and black is ground. You would then be noiseless in both positions. Enjoy!
