Just makin' some slide noise ...

Re: Just makin' some slide noise ...

That sounds nice. I liked it at the 1:30ish timeframe, where I thought you were going to do some muted strumming and change the pace of the song, but held it back. Good growl but not over the top either.

LOve the tone, good playin! My sllide attempts always sound like smeone torturing cats:)

Re: Just makin' some slide noise ...

That was incredible! I've been listening to the new Sonny Landreth album quite a bit recently, but I'm not really hearing what all the fuss is about. Maybe his vocals are putting me off or something, but I don't really hear much amazing slide playing going on.

I could sit and listen to your slide playing for hours though Doveman. I love the tone, it's pretty aggressive, which I like!
What tuning are you using? The only time I've used my slide is when my band has recently started learning Whole Lotta Love and I use it just for that downward slide thing Jimmy Page does in that. I'd love to play real slide, but I don't think it'll ever happen, especially after hearing this clip. :)

Re: Just makin' some slide noise ...

Thanks guys ... been away for a few days ... lots of nice comments.

What tuning are you using?

Standard tuning ... I learned to play in standard tuning since I could only afford one guitar when I was learning. I have recently discovered Drop-D (low E string tuned to D) that opens up a few more low string slide options.

Only occasionally have I tried open tunings ... usually acoustic. Like this one in DGDGBD

standard tuning......... that's what I use, and I did use drop D on "Join The Boys." Its very practical. I don't have to switch guitars to do a slide solo. Quite cool, doveman!

I listened to Join The Boys ... I like that a lot ... kudos :D

Re: Just makin' some slide noise ...

I need to make a correction ... I think this was done in Drop-D after all. If you listen to the lowest notes at the end ... that's the advantage to the drop-d and after thinking about it ... that's what I think I was using.

Thinking about this comment. I think Sonny Landreth is maybe the most advanced technical slide player I've seen. He's basically perfected the FRETTING UNDER THE SLIDE which is quite an awesome skill. I intend to work on it one day. BUT I personally dig the Derek, Duane, Rory ... where I get real emotion welling up inside me ... goose bumps. It just goes to show that it's not always the technical skill that makes the difference. The other guys I've mentioned are technically skilled, as well. But they can make you cry. :cool2: IMHO
